Most people that say they give a shit about surround sound don't have it set up correctly anyway lol
They're lucky if the speakers are even in the right place....let alone tuned properly. Good AVRs come with a microphone and most of the takeover projects I did when I was in home AV had it sitting unopened in the box.
Supergiant Games is probably my favorite studio out there but I just can't do early access anymore. If I play it now, I know I won't go back when it's released to see the stuff that changed...
That The Knack/Ting Tings/Toni Basil mashup got me thinking about other great mashups, so I'm wondering what your favorites are. Here are a few of mine:...
DUBAI, May 19 (Reuters) - A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his foreign minister crashed on Sunday as it was crossing mountain terrain in heavy fog, an Iranian official told Reuters, and rescuers were struggling to reach the site of the incident....
The Israeli government isn't exactly known for their subtly... UNLESS.... They've deliberately been shit at hiding it before so this time everyone would assume it couldn't have been them....Netanyahu is a stable genius playing 4D chess...!
Can't watch the video but I know exactly what you are describing and I wholly agree. It's fine with me if standing ovations are just part of the tradition....but I'm tired of the headlines about it. I want to hear about the actual reviews.
It's easy to reach out for clarity but if mods did that for every post that seemed spammy, it'd be a full time (unpaid) job. Remember that your post is an outlier, spammy-sounding posts are usually spam. I wouldn't take it personally.
You were not told you aren't permitted to introduce yourself... Your post was removed because it was mistakenly flagged by an Automatic Moderation bot (AutoMod) as spam.
Please reconsider taking the actions of an algorithm personally or at the very least, don't anthropomorphize the bot - its behavior is code, it doesn't have an attitude
Twitter was great and I think anyone who thinks otherwise either curated it to be awful or didn't really use it at all. Your Twitter experience was defined by who you followed. There was sports Twitter, political Twitter, science Twitter, weird Twitter...there were thousands of different spheres to put yourself in.
If you followed political accounts...yeah you set yourself up for a toxic experience. But I followed funny people so my experience was great. A seemingly endless series of one liners, comics, and weird observations.
It got worse but it didn't become a truly toxic cesspool until Elmo bought it.
It's not like the majority of the site was toxic, either. It was THE site for science, comedy, music, and a bunch of other interests until recently. It's like picking a couple shitty instances/communities we have here and declaring the entirety of the fediverse a toxic cesspool.
The internet has made a lot of people armchair experts happy to offer their perspective with a degree of certainty, without doing the work to identify gaps in their knowledge. Often the mark of genuine expertise is knowing the limitations of your knowledge....
As I was preparing to lock up my bike, a thief ran up behind me and grabbed it! I chased him down and threw the bike into the river to reclaim my stolen property.
Ever seen the game Vaudeville? It's a fairly basic detective game but all the characters have their own LLM and AI voices. I bought it for the reason you described. I just had to see the technology in action and I can definitely see a future with generative text/voices in games.
It's not perfect by any means but I think it's a very cool approach to a detective game. There have been updates to it since I played that address most of the problems I had with it like characters forgetting past conversations and giving conflicting info.
That's pretty much Vaudeville. The only things you can do is click on locations and talk to people, each of whom has some bit of information you need to figure out.
It's basically an experiment to see what works and what doesn't with the idea. I appreciate that they kept the scope small (no quests, no WASD movement) and have been implementing changes as they discover the shortfalls (like the ones I've mentioned). If it ever does get released as a finished game, it'll be more like a proof of concept for other games to build off of.
Unless you want to push back (clearly you don't), I wouldn't even acknowledge the topic or what about the topic makes you uncomfortable
"Hey man, this is a bar conversation. I don't feel comfortable talking about stuff like this at work."
I work in the same office as my best friend and I've told him similar - even though our politics are very closely aligned. Yes, I agree it would be funny if Trump shit his pants when he falls asleep in court. But I don't want people to hear us talking about that
As Builder.ai’s founder and Chief Wizard Sachin Dev Duggal mentioned we are in the AOL phase of AI. That's a fitting comparison to where artificial intelligence stands today...
This is a blog post from the guy who created the "study"
I read the study and it makes a hell of a lot of assumptions without really proving anything. I'm inclined to think the author worked backwards from his preconceived conclusion. It's not very convincing.
I know most people that were on reddit at the time are fully aware of this and won't be surprised but don't dismiss the findings out of hand. It's important that studies are being conducted and the fact that the finding match our lived experience is still noteworthy.
Israel called on Saturday for Palestinians in more areas of Gaza's southern city of Rafah to evacuate and head to what it calls an expanded humanitarian area in Al-Mawasi, in a further indication that the military is pressing ahead with its plans for a ground attack on Rafah....
Hi there, I'm a registered nurse in Phoenix, Arizona and I'm seriously considering moving abroad because this country is driving me insane for a lot of reasons. I was considering moving to Israel since I'm Jewish and I've heard they have a better healthcare system there and pay nurses well but this war has made me not really...
The American version failed miserably in so many ways.
I like Reggie Watts but he was either the wrong choice for Taskmaster or he just didn't understand the role. It didn't help that Alex Horne reprised his role as an assistant and there was just.....zero chemistry. The NZ and Aus versions have a different dynamic than Greg/Alex but they do seem to get along. Alex seemed very out of place with Reggie...almost like a British butler stereotype. I don't know how to describe it.
I thought the cast choice was bad, too. There was no one notable and their personalities weren't quite as varied as other series. I won't say who but there was also one who I consider to the worst contestant of any series ever by a wiiiide margin. Didn't have an opinion on them before but now I can't stand them.
Lastly, the pacing felt so.....off. The episodes were half as long and while you'd think that might make for tighter comedy, I remember being so bored watching it. There was basically no banter at all. You never "got to know" the contestants and I didn't feel the desire to look them up like I did with a lot of the UK/NZ/AUS cast.
It's not even worth watching to understand what I mean. I strongly encourage you to just forget it exists.
[Edit] I couldn't remember the whole cast so I looked it up and of course found people shitting on it. A few other things I forgot: all of the tasks were repeats from the UK version and at least one contestant was straight up mean to Alex (who is a precious angel that no one should be mean to)
The problems with social media absolutely include the social part and I'd even go as far as saying it's the biggest problem with it.
People post on social media like they're talking privately to their friends...whole lot of opinions they wouldn't dare say within punching distance of a stranger. And because it's to such a broad audience, they will find other people who will share the same awful opinions and feel validated, further entrenching their beliefs. It also encourages exaggerating or outright lying for attention.
Not to take away from the harm of data collection and targeted marketing, of course, but social media has a people problem. And to quote MIB, "A person is smart. People are dumb."
Edit: A few people have interpreted the title as serious, so I wanna clarify that it was meant as a sarcastic joke about how little sense the neurotypical world makes to me, but it is still legitimately me asking for help understanding said neurotypical world....
I have pretty much the same comment as anyone else here (punctuation is fine, "K" is less fine) so I won't repeat it but it reminds me of this sketch. People can't read your inflection over texts...especially when it's a one letter answer.
Imagine a parent saying "clean your room" and a passive aggressive teenager saying "K." - that's how it can be interpreted in some contexts.
I wonder if progress will be slow and steady until we finally get there or if it will be a huge jump past the finish line like there was in the 80s. Either way, I don't expect to see practical applications outside of the lab in my lifetime...but it's really fun to watch the science advanced, even if it is all over my head
This is a genuine question, so please don't do me like Vlad the Impaler. What is your opinion about the benefits of upgrading to displays beyond 1080p?...
4k is kind of shit when you're streaming it but something like Blu-ray is definitely a noticeable upgrade on a 4k TV. If the movie torrent is only a couple gigs, it's a low quality rip and no better then 1080p
I'm always surprised when it happens. 99% of the time I'm just tolerated, but every once in a while someone asks. Happened last night. I was sooooooooo happy.
That was an incredibly interesting read about a topic I never knew I'd find interesting. Thanks!
I just read the Wikipedia page on that diagonal. Also something I had never thought about before.
And don't assume I think you're an idiot for not adding more. I knew nothing before I read this and now I know a lot. If you do remember something (and remember this comment), feel free to reply. I love learning stuff
God we'd be such fast friends in real life....if you could put up with my own tangents and rambling, anyway. I love having conversations that lead me to 10 tabs of Wikipedia
I've never been diagnosed but I'm pretty sure I'm somewhere on the spectrum...it's a shame I can't just put "looking for an autistic partner" on a dating profile without looking like a wacko.
