I imagine it's similar to marihuana.

If people find out there's an easy, relaxed life, they don't work so hard, hurting corporate profits.

They predicted pron would condition men to expect sex on demand and sexual assault rates would skyrocket when in fact the opposite happened.

Reminds me of "computer games turns teenagers into killer machines" saying.

Not really.

Feminism embraces openness in society, including walking your own path.

If that includes deviating from cis male sexuality, then yes, feminism does indeed allow that to happen, if it happens naturally. In other words: feminism does not force you to take part in the toxic masculinity circlejerk.

In that way, yes, feminism probably reduces the amount of "male sexuality" which is basically toxic masculinity in the world. But it does not force that change, instead, it lets it happen.

As the saying goes, there's only two hard problems in IT:

Caching, naming things, and off by one errors.

This reminds me of The Four Leaved Clover

Beware that four leaved clovers can also be seen as a sign of good luck.

It violates the principle of locality, and therefore the speed of light as the highest speed allowed in the universe.

Therefore, this truly does violate a law of nature, and is therefore illegal.

Beware that the problem with rooftop greenery is that a lot of building's ceilings aren't strong enough for massive soil.

So either the soil has to be very thin, or it often isn't practical. Keep that in mind.

Well yes, you're right, I just checked.

I had in mind that the US produces coal and gas, but imports oil. Which was the historical trend, as you can see here. (scroll down a bit) But that trend changed recently, and I hadn't noticed.

gandalf_der_12te ,

highly interesting. I assume it is the abstract thinking process, combined with dissociation from yourself?

Then maybe, any puzzle computer game might provide similar effects.

There's a few problems:

  • radiation being higher than on Earth
  • 6 months travel to Mars needs many supplies
  • there's no construction material in outer space. Therefore, no or few spare parts. Everything that's lost (think leaks) can only be replenished after 6 months.
  • artificial gravity?
  • has to be self-sustaining and able to develop and grow.

Water is a living space. It harbors all kinds of life. It's not good that we try to industrialize rivers. Not good at all. We should use only wind and solar as renewable energy sources. And batteries for storage.

gandalf_der_12te ,
@gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Realistically, it's not gonna happen.

Energy usage is going to increase (quite a lot, if you ask me) in the future due to low-cost solar power. But also, I have to say, that's a good thing. Solar power has almost no environmental impact at all, and if you can't cherish that, but still doom into depression, then I would recommend reconsidering your lifestyle and maybe talk to a therapist.

gandalf_der_12te ,
@gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

I don't think so.

For one, natural selection selects the "fittest", but what the "fittest" means, changes over time.

Also, there's lots of other factors that you may have overlooked, such as sexual selection probably playing a bigger factor.

gandalf_der_12te ,
@gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

It's fascinating to me, too.

I have seen everything by now: People who think that only sociopaths have an inner monologue. People who think an inner monologue would be useful, but can't quite lean in on the concept. People who are confused that some people don't have an inner monologue. People getting angry at me for even "questioning" the inner monologue, as if it was holy.

gandalf_der_12te ,
@gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

The brain structures develop to help us navigate through the environment. So of course, at times where an inner monologue is helpful, we will probably have one.

I suspect it's probably because of stress.

Overfishing, temperature changes, medical substances, ...

gandalf_der_12te ,
@gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

ah yes, could also be.

And i also suspect that the average age of fish has gone down.

I think that we have a perception bias towards things that interest us.

Since the elements in the top-right corner (C, O, N, P, S, Si, Fe, Al, Na, ...) are interesting to us, that's what we typically look at. And in that region, things are fairly balanced. It's only in the regions where we don't typically look, where we said "let's just make it all metal so the categorization is done, call it a day, and move on". I think.

gandalf_der_12te ,
@gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

I thought so too, but it doesn't even make sense, because the only one they're hurting this way is themselves.

If they don't adopt EVs, it will be to their disadvantage in the long run.

unfortunately

gandalf_der_12te ,
@gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Exactly. I've never seen much misogyny in my life, except in the comments under any article to feminism. The irony.

gandalf_der_12te ,
@gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

IMO the best knowledge comes from doing practical examples that actually interest you. I wouldn't rush that.

gandalf_der_12te ,

Yeah, it's also very difficult for me to focus on something if I don't know where I'm going.

For every completely unhinged and stupid statement, there surely is someone who believes it.

Now, you see, if we didn't put /s behind these posts, it would be impossible to tell whether we're joking, or whether whoever writes the comment is actually that stupid. That's just how it is on the internet.

I honestly started out not liking systemd at all, mostly due to the reports that it did waaay to much, but nowadays, I like the concept.

It is basically officially moving daemon management from a script-based approach to a table/database-based approach. That improves static analyzability, therefore increasing clarity, and probably even performance.

I agree that we should abandon scripts and move towards declarative software management, and abandoning sudo for a more declarative system seems like a good step to me.

GIMP feels non-intuitive sometimes.

For example, layers.

I expect that GIMP internally has a list of all objects that I added to the file. Like, text, brush drawings, pasted images. Instead, I cannot find that list anywhere.
