Too young for the concept of doing work in exchange for something? No, I don’t think so. There’s no minimum age to learn how to do something, for the most part, if the interest is there.
However, those lower-wage jobs tend to be where a lot of the worker rights abuse tends to happen, and I absolutely think it’s way too young for them to realize if/when it’s happening, or to be in a position to properly defend themselves if they do. Sure, parental guidance and all, but let’s say my experience working with all kinds of parents in day camps, as a ski instructor and in elementary schools, didn’t make me very optimistic about a lot of them really being in a position to protect their children at work.
I’ve also honestly yet to really see it happening where it has 0 impact on their schooling, but that’s rather anecdotal…

Yeah, with an okay card the cash backs are just too good to pass up on… literally a couple thousand a year we’d be spitting on between my wife and I just making the purchases we’d have done anyway. I wouldn’t give a crap about going back to cash if it wasn’t for that.
Saw this on an ADHD Memes account on X. Shit happens more than I would like to admit. lol
Two panels. Top panel shows a cake with the words "You're nauseous because you haven't eaten." The bottom panel has a frustratied cartoon man with the words "I can't eat this I'm nauseous."
Yeah… for me it wasn’t a thing until I started Vyvanse. Now I keep forgetting to eat all day, until it wears off and I binge eat like an idiot later at night.
I coasted by in school, doing pretty much nothing, relying on my quick learning skills then forgetting everything immediately after. Teachers were apparently super anxious about my lack of attention in class, but then stopped stressing out when they saw my grades or asked me any questions. I just did my shit while they taught the rest of the class. As far as I can remember, back then they were talking about hyperactive kids, not really ADHD. I didn’t fit the criteria for hyperactivity. My brother did, but I did fine in school, so I was okay, right?
Then higher education hit, I got kicked out of one school, more or less crawled my way up and barely made it into university after a couple years of messing around. I dropped out halfway through, thoroughly depressed and even more confused about my own capabilities. I just couldn’t keep up, when I managed just fine as a kid and teen. I didn’t know what was happening to me. I felt like a fucking idiot.
Somehow, I have now wiggled my way into development/programming for the last 8 years by doing an accelerated pre-universitary program and job hopping my way to better roles. I have lead teams, helped businesses grow from startups to getting acquired or having internal growing, I do pretty fine financially speaking, have a beautiful wife and kids… but it really never feels like I’m doing that good. I know I am doing fine, objectively speaking, but I suck at being objective with myself lol
I’ve had more luck with local facebook groups or word of mouth than the internet, for this stuff, in the recent years. This and some group chats are pretty much the only reasons I still have a Meta account…
Fizz often have promos where you accumulate rewards such as monthly rebates after certain milestones. It’s currently costing me $28/mo (+tx) for 20GB after some small rebate. And they do data carry over for a couple of months, so I basically always have 40+GB in bank. I tend to buy my phones upfront when I get a good deal, and keep them until they stop doing the job, or when I don’t or want to change it for whatever reason, I resell/hand down/donate them. Phone plans just keep getting cheaper for me, which is a nice change of pace from most expenses in my life these days… But you have to stop the loop of financing with the Big 3 and getting two year plans, and either financing yourself or ideally saving and paying cash, or some mix of both…
This was a life changer for me. I had an AHI of 69. For those not familiar, AHI means Apnea-Hypopnea Index, which is an average count of “events” per hour. An event is either a complete blockage of respiration for 10s or more, or a drop of 30% or more in blood oxygen level.
After I got my CPAP, I went from sleeping 10-12h and not feeling rested ever, a literal zombie, to sleeping 7-8h regularly and feeling good.
I have 0 merit in this. I just… can. I always could, apparently. My parents organized dance competitions when I was a baby; they used to make me sleep in the DJ’s booth as it was the quietest-ish place in the venue. I slept through all of those like a (literal) baby. I don’t know why or how.
Parsing absolutely comes with a lot more overhead. Especially since many websites integrate a lot of JS interactivity nowadays, you oftentimes don’t get the full contents you’re looking for straight out of the HTML you’re getting out of your HTTP request, depending on the site.
I mean, I use formatters everywhere I can exactly so I don’t have to think about code style. I’ll take a full code base that’s consistent in a style I dislike, over having another subjective debate about which style is prettier or easier to read, any day. So whatever cargo fmt spits out is exactly what I’ll prefer, regardless of what it looks like, if only for mere consistency.

Bismuth (and Krohnkite before) never worked nearly as well for me, and AFAIK are both abandoned. The built in tiling is closer to FancyTiles/tiling zones, not auto-tiling like Pop Shell. Pop Shell also has been here for “years” by that metric lol
The BMTH thing to me is hilarious. Their first popular single was “Pray for Plagues”, where Oli is asking God to burn this world to the ground, for fucks sake. I guess those fans discovered them post-deathcore and mostly know their singles without reading the lyrics too much, or at all? I genuinely don’t know how else they’d get this idea it’s a Christian friendly band lol
It’s a direct answer to the main post, which mentions two bands, and this one is one of them. I thought the context implied the reference, visibly it didn’t, so I’m sorry for that. No need for the snark.
I know Lemmy isn't normally the best place to search for this, but are there any high-quality right-wing explainers, or modern books, or media outlets?...
There’s an episode of Behind the Bastards touching on the subject - “How Conservatism Won”. Not a right-wing resource at all, obviously, but that’s where a lot of the money goes indeed.
I understand and agree with your general point, but this idea that everyone can “just” leave their country, or hell, sometimes even the general area they live in, needs to die.
Exactly! I’m moving next year for accessibility and proximity to hospitals, due to illness in the family… Just moving to that next place and making it livable is gonna take a lot of time and monetary investment… Getting me to move again then would take said place not to be livable anymore, probably…

Yeah, more or less. Stimulants tend to have a contradictory calming and/or focusing effect on the ADHD brain. I don’t remember why exactly but it probably has to do with dopamine regulation, which our brains crave like a zombie does brains.
My diagnosis kind of explained why I can drink inordinate amounts of coffee or energy drinks (don’t do this) and sleep like a log 30min later lol
