When I used Reddit is Fun, it really hogged up data unless thumbnails we're disabled. I've noticed that Connect is also using quite a lot of data, but there is no similar setting that I can find (there's an option to disable preloading images, but I'm not seeing what that changes)....
I have accounts on various Reddit alternatives and have also had accounts on now-defunct sites. However, none have exhibited the same level of negativity as Lemmy.
It's always a laugh to see users like this. Nothing like joining an established group and then whinging about how "toxic" it is when they get rebuffed for repeatedly breaking the given rules.
I fully believe that particular occurrence was just people blindly voting for the games they recognized. Tbh, I'd be more disappointed if it was a coordinated effort. Highlighting a smaller game that is is great would be exponentially more effective and beneficial than using the awards to complain about a game you don't enjoy playing. The studios aren't going to notice, and neither will most people (like me), so it's really just wasted effort.
This is fascism-lite. Just because people aren't disappeared doesn't mean it's not in the same category. And the only way we can hope to stop from getting to "actual" fascism is by resisting shit like this.
One of mine is Commit This to Memory by Motion City Soundtrack. I basically took the title verbatim and know the album word for word. And while I would love if it did, the rest of MCS's stuff just doesn't hit the same way....
Just had this thought and I'm caught between the two. Assuming anything being considered were all "good" photos, what would you prefer if it were you?...

First, this video seems like just a joke, but it's impossible to tell just from this clip. Just gonna take your word on the comments. They sound awful.
Second, the formatting of this video is baffling. Instead of cloned video like most portrait-mode videos use for landscape viewing, they appear to have taken the very ends of the frame, zoomed in and cut out the bits that would just attach it to the central part of the frame. All indicating it was shot landscape and then edited for portrait and then further edited for this. Like...why? At that point why not just publish the video unedited? This portrait-mode stuff is so damn dumb.
Better comparison would've been something like "Annoyed with your landlord? Go build a cabin in the woods!". Like, that's straight-up appealing to some people, but it's also not just something anyone and everyone can do.

Yeah, I checked out Lemmy some time ago and noped out pretty quick after seeing it was mostly just Lemmygrad at the time. Happy to be here now that there's a lot more going on and not super keen on that face of Lemmy gaining a bigger presence again.
Jingle All the Way (the original, not the abomination with Larry the cable guy). 19% RT.
I think most people think it's too "weird", but I genuinely love it. It's got all the great 90s tropes, a cartoony core in a live action movie, an anti-consumerism message in a Christmas movie, and Phil Hartman. What's not to love?

[Feature Request] Disable thumbnails on mobile data

Why does the culture surrounding Lemmy seem to be inherently negative and hateful?

Is it more respectful to use more current photos of people who have died? Or is it better to use photos from their "prime"?

Inspired by the linked XKCD. Using 60% instead of 50% because that's an easy filter to apply on rottentomatoes....
