It was already very famous because they called it unsinkable and then it sank on its maiden voyage.

As far as I've seen the prices stay the same throughout.

Some series were available on DVD but are no longer. Places like eBay, thrift stores, and used book stores sometimes have good selections of TV on DVD.

VPN plus cheap YouTube is probably less than YouTube. And VPN is useful for more than just YouTube.

They are so poor and so small that they can't curate the content and ads, it's just too much with only billions of dollars of profit to work with.

If that doesn't work then reverse the polarity.

Politician who pushed Philippines natural gas boom is behind firm that planned to profit ( apnews.com )

An influential politician in the Philippines, who has been a cheerleader for natural gas power, is behind a company that planned to make a fortune from it, an Associated Press investigation of thousands of pages of documents has found....

Microsoft Edge nags users with a 3D banner to change Windows 11's default browser ( www.windowslatest.com )

Would you use Edge as your default browser on Windows 11 if Microsoft nags you with a 3D banner? Microsoft thinks you would. In a new experiment, which appears to be rolling out to Edge stable on Windows 11, Microsoft has turned on a banner that uses 3D graphics to promote the browser....

Corporations are so large now they can do outrageous things like this and they will still have millions or billions of users who don't care. Plus they have learned that bad press is free advertising.

dan1101 ,

Not only that but they can identify you by your cell phone and see if you are a high income person or big spender, and change the prices as you walk down the aisles.

Same. With my driving needs I get fuel about every 2 weeks so it's not a big burden. And I go on several long road trips each year and charging stations are not something I need to deal with.

Starfield has a lot of good aspects, but also some bone-headed gameplay and content decisions. I had a lot of fun with it for a few weeks and will come back to it if/when it gets to a better state.

Yeah and it sucks. Biden to me is ok, but this single issue could really hurt him.

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

Yeah it's the old garbage in, garbage out problem, the AI algorithms don't really understand what they are outputting.

I think at this point voice recognition and text generation AI would be more useful as something like a phone assistant. You could tell it complex things like "Mute my phone for the next 2 hours" or "Notify me if I receive an email from John Smith." Those sort of things could be easily done by AI algorithms that A) Understand your voice and B) Are programmed to know all the features of the OS. Hopefully with a known dataset like a phone OS there shouldn't be hallucination problems, the AI could just act as an OS concierge.

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

For Google Maps, what about a dedicated phone for just running Maps? It would only get internet from hotspot on your real phone.

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

Never considered something like that. Shame it's only for GrapheneOS, which apparently only runs on Google Pixel phones.

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

If nobody paid any attention to him we could just passive aggressively get through the next 4 years.

I like the idea of these games but the execution was way way more complicated than it needed to be.

It all depends on the springs. The side springs over the tracks have no tension on them when the door is up.

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

Mess with what you're comfortable with, but an untensioned side spring is just a curly piece of wire.

The biggest change to me is how much the streaming services are pushing commercials now. Paying to watch commercials really completes the transition back to cable.

What is the benefit of closing Studios? Why not sell them?

Yes, this is in relation to the closing of Tango Gameworks and Arcane Austin. Is there some immediate monetary benefit behind it that I have no idea about? Is it so they can keep the IPs and not have to deal with the developers? Are the Studios too expensive for anyone to buy? I honestly don't understand how these executives...

Too late now but I don't think you're supposed to drink distilled water. It lacks the minerals your teeth and body need.

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

Yeah did someone just run or interpret reports incorrectly? If a person subscribes to Game Pass and plays Hi Fi Rush for X months, I'd consider that a sale.

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

Just the fact that they played some minimum amount should tell them the game contributed to the subscriber's enjoyment of Game Pass. Otherwise if they are both selling a game and giving it to Game Pass subscribers for free I'm not sure what they are expecting. Can't have your cake and eat it too, but I'm sure they would like that.

Maybe they are hoping that Game Pass is like extended demos and will lead to more game sales. But there are too many new games all the time for most to hold my interest.

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

Absolutely agree, just recently instead of buying Manor Lords I just found a good deal on a month of Game Pass. I played it as much as I wanted (for now) for less than $10.

What do you think about this?

Someone told me that if you keep your gaze fixed and imagine a completely black circle right above someone's head, what you are actually doing is telepathy... so far I haven't researched more about it but I have noticed that some strange things happen when I do that, I see spirals and the vision looks different, could someone...

I think overall about half the population is smarter and more tolerant.

However we haven't done much to combat climate change and suburban sprawl is worse than ever.

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

They won't pay for that, they would probably rather spend money on developing AI curation.

A bot browsing or posting is not equivalent to a human doing so.

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

What does a PSN account involve? Just an email and password, maybe a handle/nickname?

I assume it needs no credit card or payment.

If all that is true a PSN account is annoying but doesn't seem so bad.

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

If all that is required is an email address and password I could live with giving Sony a special email address and unique password, I don't see where I have a privacy or security risk there. Annoying, but it's a lot better than another launcher or something. ETA: It asks for birthdate, definitely don't give them your real birthdate but give them something close. I have a standard fake that I use.

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

I would definitely be annoyed but have had to create an account for other games too. Give them an email that isn't your primary email and a unique password, I don't see where there is any risk after that.

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

They might verify the email. But if you're that worried about Sony having your email you can just make a unique one for them. You don't have to give them your primary email.

dan1101 ,
@dan1101@lemm.ee avatar

No it needs more AI. Maybe AI-generated ads. The killer tech of 2024. The shareholders will be so pleased.

This one covered households making 2x the poverty level. I bet a lot of people qualified that didn't realize it, including myself.

I hate Facebook but it doesn't sound right to legally force a service to act how you want. Facebook is how they want to be, take it or leave it. Wish more people would leave it and that there were better alternatives.

Not sure I like this because it assumes it is her business to decide whether you're doing the job.
