How is it Thatcher's fault? I'm genuinely curious.

I learned that Hong Kong is under British control because it's a leasing contract that last 99 years (from 1898 to 1997). So when the time comes it's nobody's fault that Hong Kong went back to China. Because China at the time would never extent the contract or even except negotiations.

The advantage of iMessage is SMS fallback when you don't have internet access.

Can someone explain why a job application called "resume", like in Play/Pause/Resume?

How is it relevant?

(I'm learning English as second language).

Edit: So we're speaking French now? What? Why? You guys butchered so many words already, can you just made up one more?

Ps: Is that also the case with the word "fiancé"? I've been wondering where the hell did that "é" came from.

cordlesslamp ,

So the first bite is just a mouthful of cheese? Why?

In my entire life I've spent less than $50 in micro-transactions.

I can hear your eyes rolling from here :))

Even Apple finally admits that 8GB RAM isn't enough ( www.xda-developers.com )

There were a number of exciting announcements from Apple at WWDC 2024, from macOS Sequoia to Apple Intelligence. However, a subtle addition to Xcode 16 — the development environment for Apple platforms, like iOS and macOS — is a feature called Predictive Code Completion. Unfortunately, if you bought into Apple's claim that...

They could just raise the prize to $198 and slap another 4GB of RAM on it.

EV are much heavier than petrol cars, maybe the offset weight will help regain some grip? Normal tires wear out so fast on EVs.

Fucking Tang! Got a shiver down my spine just from reading its name. Fucking disgusting shit, tasted like blinker fluid.

cordlesslamp ,

I fucking love correctly used POV memes.

cordlesslamp ,

It looks like 4PM outside, what do you mean "dinner"?

cordlesslamp ,

Usually we let the baby having his meal first (he is 8 months old), when everything is said and done, we put the baby to sleep. Then we have our dinner in peace or do whatever we want.

That being said, I just thought it's super early outside based on your picture. What you're saying is totally reasonable and I completely agree.

cordlesslamp ,

I know that Shrek is all about parody of fairy tales and princesses. But I don't know what story that character came from. It's much appreciated if someone can give me an explanation. Thank you.

cordlesslamp ,

I feel your pain. 9 years ago I dropped my Intel CPU into the socket. One magnifying glass, a tweezer, some toothpick, and a week later it was up and running for 8 years, until I moved and leave it in a cardboard box for 6 months. Now it's just boot looping after the CPU fan spin for a few seconds.

I'm so pissed. I organized all my favorite porns in an encrypted folder and thought it would be funny to use a hilarious password (that I've never used before). Then a week pass and I need to unlock the folder For Academic Purposes and realized I has COMPLETELY FORGOT THE PASSWORD! I've been trying for a month now with no success. FML. I got some personal stuff in there too.

cordlesslamp ,

I do have Bitwarden for all my accounts and stuff. But who would have thought to manually save something like that? I'm fucking STUPID!

cordlesslamp ,

It's on Android called "Solid Explorer" (I use the paid version).

cordlesslamp ,

Hence the "STUPID" in all caps.

cordlesslamp ,

Got a few of "personal stuff" in there too. That's what I miss the most. Can't replace something like that.

cordlesslamp ,

Do you have to slide the power slider and turn off your phone for it to work? Or does it disable biometric as the slider show up?

Forget the lottery numbers, I wanna know when I'll get laid.

Would Sudo do anything you said if you say his name first?

Imagine:

Sudo fetch

Sudo close the door

Sudo rm -rf /*

Sudo poop in the toilet

Well Yes, But Actually No.

Netflix don't make games (for now). They just bought the game's license, remove all IAPs and paywalls, and include it with your Netflix subscription.

Generally it's a good thing. HOWEVER! The way Netflix did it requires the studio to make a complete separate version of the game and give it to Netflix.

So most of the time, it became abandon-ware. Because the separated Netflix version stopped getting updates and bug fixes soon or right after release.

Ok, you just struck a nerve here, that shit drive me crazy.

I'm a first time father of a 6 months old and I love him to death. I want to spend every waking moment with him so I take up as much "baby works" as possible since his birth. Bath, feeding, changing, play, exercise, going outside, doctor appointments, I do all those things.

And EVERY SINGLE GODDAMN TIME I got asked "where's the mother?", "Is she busy today so you're babysitting?", "Why you have to babysit today?"

HAVE TO? BITCH! This is my fuckin pleasure, I'm craving it, I'm addicted to this little poop machine. GTFO!

I want to yell at their face "THIS IS MY SON, I LOVE HIM, CAN'T I JUST BE WITH HIM!?"

My wife admitted that I do a much better job taking care of our baby. I am kind of "extra careful" type of person and I've been taking care of foster newborn kittens for a decade, and believe it or not but some skills does transfer over. Infants is basically function on pure instinct, and I'm damn good at anticipate it. I can accurately translate my son's cry 90% of the time. He has 3 distinct cries for hungry, sleep, and diaper change, then later another "i'm bored" cry.

My wife would often call me on the phone to have me listen to his crying and ask what'd he want.

I'm a damn good father and I'm proud to take care of him. I don't have to do it, I GET TO do it!

What else would you like to do? seize the means of production?

Meta is a complete dumpster fire

Nothing profound here, just need to vent: I haven't used Facebook for several years now, but I just got my 10 year old son a Meta Quest 2 and had to activate it by linking to my Facebook account. Just two days later I got a warning that the account will be locked because they detected that a child was using the Quest with an...

Second this.

Also VR is supposed to be for kids 14 and up.

I can whistle with my lips just slightly open (like a ventriloquist).

I can make a really high pitched whistle like that and it confused the hell out of other people while they trying to find where the sound came from (high pitched sound is harder to pinpoint the location as it's bounce around the room).

But as I get older, I find it getting harder and harder to do so. 10 - 12 years ago I can whistle an entire song like that and it would sound crystal clear. Now it's really hard to follow a tune or make complex sounds.

CEO of Google Says It Has No Solution for Its AI Providing Wildly Incorrect Information ( futurism.com )

You know how Google's new feature called AI Overviews is prone to spitting out wildly incorrect answers to search queries? In one instance, AI Overviews told a user to use glue on pizza to make sure the cheese won't slide off (pssst...please don't do this.)...

If my best friend refused a million dollars to not punch me in the face. He's no longer my best friend.

Today I caught myself unconsciously went to Duckduckgo to make a search (even tho the browser start page is already google).

Thinking back, I've been using duckduckgo more than google, and often because I can't find what I'm looking for on Google but ads and autogenerated fake webpages.

History will prove it once again, there's no such thing as "too big to fail".

cordlesslamp , (edited )

Yeah sometimes it do be like that, especially if you're searching for some obscure things or localized events then DDG is still worse than GG.

If Nintendo and iPhone can be jailbreak, then everything else can be too.

What's private DNS and how do I use it?

I have Adguard and I believe it's using Google DNS.

Thanks.

cordlesslamp ,

I can give you another one from my wife:

"I need to watch ads to get rewards or get lives for [whatever game she's playing on her phone]."

cordlesslamp ,

Hey thanks, I found it in the settings.

cordlesslamp ,

When someone says "turn around", you turn 180° to the opposite direction of what you're currently facing, not 360°.

cordlesslamp ,

Do you have any idea how little that narrowed it down?

cordlesslamp , (edited )

Try thinking some sentences (like a song lyrics or a conversation) while holding your lips and tongue completely still, I mean not moving them even a tiny bit.

cordlesslamp ,

Well it's supposed to be impossible.
