He/They
This is now my main account! I hope to share some drawings and paintings here and get inspired by other fedi artists! I occasionally build furniture as well, but am still practicing at that! Also, I'm bisexual and genderfluid. (I do not think of myself as a furry - the name comes from my cat.)

P.S. I have a brain injury and am #ActuallyAutistic

@actuallyautistic Do you ever question whether or not you're autistic? I do in part because some of the traits I have can also be attributed to my brain injury, so I don't know if it's one or both

catswhocode OP ,
@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar

@pathfinder You summed this up so well! I've had many of these same thoughts. I haven't had a professional evaluation yet, I'm not sure if I need to... @actuallyautistic

@JeremyMallin Trauma club, cheers! 🥂 @actuallyautistic

@AnAutieAtUni I know, right? Nothing fits into a nice little box 😆 @actuallyautistic

catswhocode OP ,
@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar

@pathfinder Oh, thank you, that feels very validating! I mean, heck, the official tests used to not even include masking 🤷‍♀️ @actuallyautistic

catswhocode OP ,
@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar

@pathfinder I'm finding https://embrace-autism.com/ to be very helpful, in that regard! I haven't taken all the tests yet, but most say I'm in the autistic range :blobfoxlaugh: @actuallyautistic

catswhocode OP ,
@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar

@pathfinder I find this one interesting: https://embrace-autism.com/systemizing-quotient-revised/ because I tend to systemize lots of things, even if they don't need to be 😆 @actuallyautistic

@pathfinder Isn't it?? I scored pretty high on the RAADS-R too @actuallyautistic

@actuallyautistic I'm curious, has anyone ever interpreted your infodumping as bragging? That happened to me on here a while ago - I was just talking about some trips I had taken or something, and the other person thought I was showing off 🙄 I think they were neurotypical.

catswhocode OP ,
@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar

@foolishowl it makes me a little sad hearing so many people who have experienced this :abunhdcry: it doesn't happen so much in ND friend circles! @actuallyautistic

catswhocode OP ,
@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar

@jrdepriest I'm fine with your niche interests! In fact, I have an account over on infosec too 😝 🤓 @actuallyautistic

catswhocode OP ,
@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar

@jrdepriest Aww, yeah, as an adult I know it can be difficult to unlearn that, but ultimately, if it's something you love, then good for you. If other people don't get it, that's their loss. I've had friends who infodump about subjects that aren't my interest, but I appreciate their passion for it. For example, my wife was obsessed with the show "Tiny House" and I loved how into it she was! @actuallyautistic

Since we are coming up on June, it seems like a good time to check in with everyone here on @bookstodon regarding favorite reads of 2024 so far. Whatcha got?

My top five reads of 2024 so far:

The Criminal series of graphic novels by Ed Brubaker (ten primary works)

James, Percival Everett

The Book of Love, Kelly Link

Poor Deer, Claire Oshetsky

Prequel, Rachel Maddow

catswhocode ,
@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar

@kimlockhartga 1984 by George Orwell, finally getting around to reading it! It feels so contemporary. @bookstodon

@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar

@jda oh, thank you! I would probably really like that. @kimlockhartga @bookstodon

Autistic burnout + untreated ADHD =

impulse control issues + inability to force yourself to do anything + drained by no ability to function

Lots of walking pass a mess unable to make yourself clean it, then blame yourself for it.

Distracted, can't focus enough to do fun things and/or take care of yourself.

Forgetting everything. So burned out you can't remember important things + made worse by ADHD.

1/3

@actuallyautistic

catswhocode ,
@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar

@ashleyspencer it sucks, I know!! I've been on ADHD meds for several years now and they help a lot, but have really struggled without them, and even with them some days are tough 😫 @actuallyautistic

@EVDHmn thank you!! :da_dance: @ashleyspencer @actuallyautistic

@actuallyautistic I think The Doctor from Doctor Who is autistic. All of them. :blobfoxlaughsweat:

@actuallyautistic I was just watching a clip of the Wednesday dance and I noticed a part where two of the other kids gave her this weird look, and I'm like "I know that look!!" It's the "you're weird and we're laughing at you but not laughing at you" look, if you know what I mean

@actuallyautistic Has "Autism & PDA" ever been talked about here? I can't find anything on it short of web searches. It seems to be a trait of Autism that's prevalent. It sure seems to apply to me.

catswhocode ,
@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar

@Coffeemug it seems to apply to me too! @actuallyautistic

Our emotions tell us a lot about what’s happening in our lives.

Because of people telling us that we emote wrong and alexithymia, however, we lose touch with them. Then we get bullied for being “emotionless”

How do you get in touch with your emotions?

@actuallyautistic

catswhocode ,
@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar
catswhocode ,
@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar

@theautisticcoach I get in touch with mine through art, music, dance, and other creative outlets, as well as meditation. But I also have those moments where I appear "emotionless," like you said, especially when dealing with death. @actuallyautistic

@actuallyautistic I am obsessed with this puzzle game lately: https://www.gamepix.com/play/totemia-cursed-marbles - it's a remake of a Flash game called Zuma that I used to play in the early '00s

catswhocode , to ActuallyAutistic group

@actuallyautistic I tend to overanalyze everything - it can be useful but it also gets overwhelming some days :blobfoxlaughsweat:

catswhocode OP ,
@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar

@miaoue ooh that's a great way of looking at it! :blobfoxlaugh: @housepanther @GreenRoc @actuallyautistic

catswhocode OP ,
@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar

@GreenRoc yeah it's definitely in comparison to neurotypicals @housepanther @miaoue @actuallyautistic

catswhocode OP ,
@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar

@actuallyautistic one example I can give is at work - I do a lot of document management, and I always debate over whether or not to use abbreviations because I'm afraid people won't understand them. But they can just look at the documents ffs :blobfoxlaugh:

catswhocode OP ,
@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar

@aspiedan I have read Hamlet!! Omg he is autistic (always talking about "his madness") maybe autism and other things idk @actuallyautistic

catswhocode OP ,
@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar

@aspiedan perhaps Shakespeare was autistic; wouldn't surprise me. @actuallyautistic

catswhocode OP ,
@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar

@aspiedan well it probably existed but the terminology didn't, I get what you mean though. It is terrifying! @actuallyautistic

catswhocode , to ActuallyAutistic group
@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar

@actuallyautistic @actuallyadhd @braininjury I also have a tendency to start projects and not finish them, or have trouble with the organization part, which I'm told is a common ADHD trait 😆 (laughing with you, not at you) /cel

catswhocode OP ,
@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar

@actuallyautistic for those who don't know the tone tags, here's a glossary: https://tonetaglist.carrd.co/ I only learned them recently myself @actuallyadhd @braininjury

catswhocode , to ActuallyAutistic group
@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar

@actuallyautistic @actuallyadhd I love taking the lyrics to "Sail" by AWOLNATION ("blame it on my ADD, baby") and inserting other things for "ADD," like "TBI," "SUD," or "AuDHD"

catswhocode OP ,
@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar

@actuallyautistic or in my friend's case, OCD 😜 (we were even joking about it one time) @actuallyadhd

catswhocode , to ActuallyAutistic group
@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar

@actuallyautistic @actuallyadhd I know this isn't specifically an autistic/ADHD trait, but I have a lot of trouble remembering people's names. Usually I have to write down the name, take a picture of it, or make an association that sticks. Does this happen to any of you too?

catswhocode OP ,
@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar

@GreenRoc oh, that sounds even more difficult! my wife has face blindness too. I tend to remember faces pretty well, though - not sure why the names are so difficult. @actuallyautistic @actuallyadhd

catswhocode OP ,
@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar

@pathfinder I think another issue with the names is that I'm often thinking about a million things at once when someone tells me their name 😆 @actuallyautistic @actuallyadhd

catswhocode OP ,
@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar

@GreenRoc that's so interesting! I have trouble with directions, although the visual cues help. @actuallyautistic @actuallyadhd

catswhocode OP ,
@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar

@gaysis I think you're right! I often tend to think someone "looks like" a different name, like "she looks like a Jessica" and her name is something else @pathfinder

catswhocode OP ,
@catswhocode@mastodon.art avatar

@aaronesilvers thanks Aaron!! oh I think this is true of me haha @pathfinder @actuallyautistic @actuallyadhd
