Aw man, imagine using technology to reduce the amount of time people had to spend working, rather than making rich people more money... what a crazy world.

"Worker productivity" has been going up for 50 years, but compensation hasn't been. That extra money goes into the pockets of the board and shareholders and CEOs.

80 years ago, the average CEO pay was about 20x the lowest pay in his company. Now, instead, we have billionaires.

@ahdok@ttrpg.network avatar

I'm not talking about the single outliers at the top, but about the "billionaire class" in general, it's a pretty modern concept. There's a reason I said "Average" and not "Richest"

Yes, if we go back to before 1900 the wealthiest people had more of the pie, but this is largely a product of the bottom of society having, essentially, nothing. 1800s societies were capable of producing enough for (most people) to survive, and there wasn't much excess "wealth" to go around. While the rich collected most of that, the difference is in the scale of "available resources." It's not a comparable system when most of your population are serfs.

I don't find it encouraging to say "oh well, this isn't unique, look it used to be like this 100 years ago!" when 100 years ago the quality of life for regular people was abysmal.

The fact that your graphs show wealth inequality steadily growing is the major concern. We had a more equitable society in the 1970s by a long shot. Our current state isn't inevitable, it's a result of the policies we've implemented. With current trends, do we want our society to return to those dynamics of the1800s? In a world where we've so much automation and wealth in the world that we could care for everyone why do people still have to work 40+ hours a week just to get by?

Funny you should say "we" and "American History" though :) Maybe the American model is the problem here.

Konsi actually has extremely good skin for a goblin, mostly because she's free of Maglubiyet's curse - but she has difficulty recognizing beauty in herself.

Sores, boils, pock marks, blotchiness...

Maglubiyet's curse just makes goblins a little bit "worse" in every conceivable way.

There's a reason I left garlic off the list ;)

I think, the first casting of MMM always needs a dedicated scene where the rest of the party get to explore what the wizard has made for them. It's a massive opportunity for creativity with the players, and as a DM you can just take a load off and let the wizard player run the session for a while, explaining all the cool things they incorporated.

The first time I cast MMM in 5e, it was with my pyrophobic gnome librarian wizard, Neff. She build a special room for each member of the party to cater to their needs, and I built a map for it (we were on VTT)

Umm... actually recalling information is INT.

The first line under "intelligence" in the PHB is:

"An Intelligence check comes into play when you need to draw on logic, education, memory, or deductive reasoning."

Hell, even the keen mind feat, which gives you perfect memory for a month, gives you INT.

I know people like to "well actually" me after every single comic I post here, but give me at least a little credit...

I do take 5 minutes to check the rules before I spend multiple hours drawing a joke about them.

There is!

Under the Konsi comics, you should see her name as a link, if you click on it, it'll show you only those.

They're in reverse chronological order, so start at the bottom and work backwards. Please be advised that there's some non-comic art of her mixed in.

That's what I do with my gnome wizard... after all, the PHB explicitly says "gnomes love puns"

When I ran Rime of the Frostmaiden I had a player who made a lizardfolk wizard. Lizard Wizard. The game was online so here's his VTT token.

https://ttrpg.network/pictrs/image/6e56efd8-b995-44c0-959b-6fe42b2c26fa.png

In session 0, most of my players were getting used to roll20, so I ran a big combat to start the campaign off - ambush by ten goblins and two dire wolves.

On the wizard's first turn, he's like "I got this" leaps from the sled, sprints across the battlefield to a goblin archer, and bites the guy in two.

Wizard.

This presents several problems.

  1. What is "one object"? A proper suit of platemail is like 30 objects, the helm is a different object to the breastplate, and that is a different object to the left sabaton. Such a ruling could cause a lot of table arguments.

  2. Why is "a banquet" different to "a suit of platemail" in this regard? They're both comprised of several smaller components that could individually be described as objects?

  3. The spell doesn't explicitly say "you can only make one object" it repeatedly, and irresponsibly careens wildly from using singular examples, and using plurals. The first line of the spell text is "You convert raw materials into products of the same material." (plural) It then gives examples of "a bridge, a rope, clothes" (singular, singular, plural).

I don't see a sage advice on this issue specifically but Crawford has answered "can you make a full set of artisans tools with a casting of fabricate" with yes - and most sets of tools aren't "one object" either...

Remember to check creative uses of your spells with your DM. Your DM is at risk and your DM can go down as well as up, and you may not get back all the DM that you put in.

In this case, Aristocratic level meals for a day is a single line on a chart in the PHB, so we're good.

But then so is a level 20 wizard.

In tomorrow's comic, Konsi's going to be standing significantly further back than she is here. This is because Drawing people standing far apart and talking to each other is difficult without using perspective, which I'm bad at, so I put them close together for this first panel during the last panel, Konsi backed up several paces while they were arguing.

The number of posts on lemmy has almost exactly doubled since I started posting this comic series.

I don't know what that signifies.
