I saw the image and chuckled a bit, then I scrolled down and saw the headline and cackled out loud... oh shit... this meme is about me, isn't it?

This is normal in Japan.

Perfect-looking fruits and vegetables (and giant tunafish) regularly get sold at premiums in grocery stores or are auctioned off. Sometimes it makes the news.

Oh my god, that's awful. Where?

Sticky trick: new glue spray kills plant pests without chemicals ( www.theguardian.com )

The insect glue, produced from edible oils, was inspired by plants such as sundews that use the strategy to capture their prey. A key advantage of physical pesticides over toxic pesticides is that pests are highly unlikely to evolve resistance, as this would require them to develop much larger and stronger bodies, while bigger...

In which way?

(For those that didn't get it, the joke is a double entendre.)

Japan is accepting more immigrates than ever before.

And the percentage of non-Japanese living in Japan is the highest in its history.

I only say that because I assume you mean that Japan is reluctant to accept immigrants. You're right, many Japanese would rather the country die than open it up to the world. But in practice, immigration has been rising sharply for years.

aeronmelon OP ,

That's not it. Black Hawk Down was released in 2001, the movie I'm trying to find was on cable in the 1990s.

aeronmelon OP ,

Again, too new. About 15 years before that, at least.

(Good movie, though)

aeronmelon OP ,

No, not this one either.

One of my favorite Clooney movies, though.

aeronmelon OP ,

Clear and Present Danger is a hilarious guess, definitely not that one.

Courage Under Fire was a movie I had originally dismissed, but had to check again. The final fight scene in that movie looks almost EXACTLY like I remember the movie on TV... but it still isn't the right movie.

It is entirely possible the movie I'm thinking of filmed in that exact same location. The place looks exactly right, but I know my movie didn't kill Meg Ryan.

"SHEEEEE'S DEEEEEAAAAADDD!!" :P

aeronmelon OP ,

The Beast (of War) is a good guess, but that's not it either. Another movie I'm going to have to check out later.

Definitely not the original Fail Safe.

aeronmelon OP ,

Obviously none of these.

I came here to ask real people who watch lots of movies if they knew which movie I was trying to find, not a chat bot that just spits out a list of famous movies.

aeronmelon OP ,

Like I said, none of those movies are obscure.

aeronmelon OP ,

Sahara (1943) starring Humphrey Bogart, Sahara (1983) starring Brooke Shields, Sahara (1995) starring Jim Belushi, Sahara (2005) starring Matthew McConoughey, and Sahara (2017) starring Omar Sy are all not it. :P

Doesn't seem like Navy Seals is it, either. Also, when I say "war," I mean there's military action, I don't know if the movie was about a proper war or if they were just fighting an aggressor.

I had to find a copy of In the Army Now to confirm that movie wasn't it. Like Courage Under Fire, it has the same story beats but it is (thankfully) not the right movie. Would have been upset if I had to sit through another Pauly Shore film.

Pretty sure the movie I saw all those years ago was a drama, not a comedy.

aeronmelon OP ,

I decided to come HERE and ask real people.

Thank you for trying, though.

I toured the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo, right before it moved to Toyosu. The guide mentioned that giant tuna being caught today, as big as they are, are smaller than they used to be.

If only they would keep adapting the Ender's Game books.

The limitations of space travel, and the technology that gets around it is a critical part of the story.

aeronmelon ,

I think the movie adapted the book better than they did with the Harry Potter books. Or most everything else.

As someone who tries to watch the movies first, so I'm not let down, I was a bit afraid going into Ender Game because I found that book series very early in life. I would have wanted the movie to be longer, but I respect how well it followed the source material while making a very slow and methodical book accessible to a general audience. Even going so far as to include the lake scene and the egg scene.

It was much better than the critics at the time would admit. Many of them are critical of the movie just because they hate Orsen Scott Card.

Being able to crack wise when you are otherwise serious and measured in your speech is mentally healthy and actually a sign of high intellect. They've done studies about it and everything.

aeronmelon ,

No, I see it but I don't have to deal with it.

It's also not as much of a constant as it used to be.
