@actuallyautistic Do y'all know if it's an autistic trait to be super skeptical of stuff? Like, for example, my parents watch some questionable "health" people on YouTube, and when they show me a video from said people, I can tell IMMEDIATELY that they are grifters in it for money. Idk what gives it away but it's like a flashing warning sign in my brain.

I wonder if it has to do with social influence and the effects of charisma/agreeableness that NDs might not fall for.

@chevalier26 @actuallyautistic I actually think it's the opposite, that we tend to be naturally more trusting. But the flip side of that is that when we (or our people) do get burned we hold onto those memories and pick up the patterns that help us prevent getting scammed again. I think this can lead to anxiety or healthy skepticism, depending on supports and how well we're able to recover.
In today's world where every second thing is a scam, the patterns become very apparent very quickly

@Greenseer @woozle @maggiejk @chevalier26 @actuallyautistic My theory, as someone who was raised authoritarian (my family is very religious) and broke from that as an adult, is that we process information in a very logical way. But what conclusions we arrive at are extremely dependent on what we believe to be true about the world. Garbage in, garbage out. If we believe humans need to be dominated in order to not wreck everything, our drive for justice will lead us to authoritarianism

@woozle @Greenseer @maggiejk @chevalier26 @actuallyautistic I can't really say I broke through it so much as it broke me.
I was very sheltered as a kid, as I became an adult I kept running afoul of situations I never saw coming, because so many of my fundamental assumptions about how the world worked led me to make ill-informed decisions of who to trust and how to act to protect myself. A small part of why I married my husband is because his experiences rounded out the information I was missing

Do you have any clothing routines? I own eight gray plain t-shirts with no tags which I love. I often will just wear them over and over again.

@Uair @AutisticDoctorStruggles @autism101 @actuallyautistic band shirt usually refers to a T-shirt with a musician or band logo on it. The kinds that you can usually buy at concerts. In this case, ones with a black base colour.

I'll put out the call again. Maybe someday...

I need one person who isn't lying to me. I've never had that. Everyone I've been close to, all my family, were lying to me about who they were and who I was all my life. Now, my only source of information is the internet, and I don't trust it. I missed the memo where everyone on the internet became honest and honorable; I still see it as an unregulated wasteland of bullshit and scam artists.

@Uair @actuallyautistic I'm not sure I can commit to being your one person. But I can confirm that I saw the aurora with my own eyes last week. The Sun goes through an 11 year cycle of where it's magnetic activity ebbs and flows. The next solar maximum is next year (2025) which means higher likelihood that particles from solar flares will hit earth's atmosphere, which causes the aurora. My engineer brother reassured me the risks to the grid are over hyped because it's not hard to protect from
