Venator ,

Diet and exercise make a difference too. Most Americans eat a lot more calorific food and walk/cycle a lot less.

Duno about newer cars, but in a 2017 model bmw it tends to brake for parked cars quite often when using radar cruise control...

Venator , (edited )

Ah true, yeah I test drove a polestar and a Hyundai ioniq 5 before deciding to go with the bmw and they both worked a lot better, but were also way more expensive since they were new and the bmw was second hand 😅

Unfortunately there weren't any second hand phev volvos available in my area at the time.

It's incredibly useful in stop and go traffic, and I'm often just too lazy to turn it off after the traffic ends, until it randomly brakes for a parked car 😅

Venator ,

There's often cars parked on the side of the road on highways in NZ... Its also incredibly useful in stop and go traffic and sometimes I'm too lazy to turn it off after the traffic ends, until it randomly brakes for a parked car 😅

Probably would still need the 12V battery to have enough charge to close the connection to the high voltage battery that would power the step down converter.

But yeah it seems dumb to me that most EVs don't keep the 12V battery topped up from the high voltage battery somehow while the car is parked, but I'm not an electrical engineer ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Venator ,

There really shouldn't need to be a 12V battery at all

I think it's mainly there just to be able to control the circuit that cuts power to the high voltage battery off while the car is parked for safety reasons.

I prefer the term Yankee doodlegrees, thank you.

Venator ,

I ain't watching a 19 minute video about it, I'm in the comment section for the summary...

Venator ,

As a general rule of thumb, "New York" refers to the city, unless otherwise specified such as "New York State", or in a list/map that's obviously only listing/labeling states.

Venator ,

I thought they were rasins, but not sure.

Venator ,

Sounds like it is connected, but the system gets overwhelmed sometimes or has outages when they have to use trucks "only temporarily". Not as bad as said in the video, but still pretty pathetic for a country that wealthy... 😅

Venator ,

Correct, but if V is larger, F will be larger too, assuming m has no measurable change, so it's quite a tautological statement.

Venator ,

It's not the crushing of your inner organs that kills you, its your lack of off site backups of your consciousness 😜

Venator ,

It's still incredibly stupid to dilute your own votes and give him more votes...

They could also sell shares to raise money to hire more people...

I think all the right wingers who were dissatisfied with reddit migrated to voat?

Venator ,

Lawful evil should be: asks you to make a ticket, closes it immediately and tells you it's not an issue, it's working as designed.

Venator ,

Yeah I think chaotic neutral and neutral evil should be swapped.

There's not much room for improvement in terms of efficiency for EVs, except maybe lower rolling resistance tyres and better aero. You generally have to replace the whole car for better aero though unless you don't mind having some bolt on mods 😂

Venator , (edited )

Batteries capacity per m^3 and/or per KG is improving over time though, so that's where the main reason to upgrade an EV would come from.

E-Bikes Should Not Require Pedaling, Proposes U.K. Government, Diverging From E.U. ( www.forbes.com )

E-bikes could get faster, more powerful and not require pedaling, in a move announced today by UKGOV. Cycling organizations are opposed to the plans.

It's also extremely useful for changing gears while riding uphill if its a hub motor style one.

Venator ,

E scooters are completely different:

  • they have significantly less range for the same battery size.

  • can't make it up some hills depending on the torque of the motor on the scooter

  • less comfortable to ride a long distance

  • easier to store and transport, especially in a small car or on the bus or train (depending on the size of the scooter)

  • more difficult to park/lock up outside in public spaces, but can sometimes be taken with you when a bicycle would have to be locked up outside

Venator ,

I didn't click the link either, but yeah I've never heard of mopeds referred to as "e-scooters" before, but I guess that could be a regional thing...

Venator ,

Standing desks are way less effective than riding an ebike. On an e bike you will end up peddling the whole way, just that hills don't increase the effort at all, and you get there faster. So it's less exercise and more like equivalent to using an exercycle.

I consider the opposite of imposter syndrome to be when you feel qualified but everyone else thinks you're an imposter.

Venator ,

That point is when you buy a dishwasher, then you can just pull a clean dish out of the dishwater 😅

Venator ,

I just start it when I try to put a dish in and it ends up in a janky position, or when I have to get a dirty dish out and clean it. I empty it one dish at a time or when I run out of bench space due to the dirty dishes on the bench 😅

If I don't have a dishwasher I just end up buying take away once all the dishes are dirty...

That sort of job has really high turnover as most people find it soul crushing and quit.

Venator , (edited )

I've heard it can also be really stressful when they have cases where they don't have authority or budget to help people because of buerecracy and rules set by politicians etc.

The result being the only people who survive in the job are people who're unfazed by that, or learn to cope by not caring, which is probably the case with the two male case workers.

Venator ,

I guess they built it there so it can make use of existing infrastructure without too many major changes .
