The problem is algorithmically driven content feeds and the lack of transparency around them. These algorithms drive engagement which prioritizes content that makes people angry, not content that make people happy. These feeds are full of misinformation, conspiratorial thinking, rage bait, and other negativity with very little user control to protect themselves, curate the feed or to have neutral access to news and politics.
Lemmy sorts content very simply based on user upvotes. If you want to know why you're seeing a post you can see exactly who upvoted it and what instances that traffic came from. It's not immune to being manipulated but it can't be done secretly or in a centralized way.
Yet based on their actions we already know that Facebook has levers they can pull to directly affect the amount of news people see about a specific topic, let alone the source of information on that topic. These big social media companies guard these proprietary algorithms that are directly determining what news people see on a massive scale. Sure they claim to be a neutral arbiter of content that just gives people what they want but why would anyone believe them?
Lemmy is not the same thing, though it's not without its own problems.
I'm not going to argue about how addictive any specific feed or sorting method is, but this method is content neutral, does not adjust based on user behavior (besides which communities you subscribe to) and is completely transparent as all post interactions are public. With this type of sorting users can be sure that certain content is not prioritized over others (outside of mod actions which are also public). Having a more neutral straightforward ranking system that isn't based on user behavior reduces addictiveness and is less likely to form echo chambers. This makes it easier to see more diverse content, reduces the spread of misinformation and is much more difficult to manipulate.
I think part of this phenomena is that the color of the sky on a clear day just wasn't considered as a color, it was 'blank', the absence of clouds, stars or sunset. Kind of like how water has a flavor but we consider it to be neutral.
This seems like an empty threat to me. Every promotion I've ever gotten internally has come with a negligible pay increase (~4%). The best promotions I've gotten have been leaving to take a new job somewhere else (~20-50%).

Besides the Sony account drama (I don't care about multiplayer), anyone know how this actually runs performance-wise? I usually assume these ports scale well since it's a PS4 game but Sony launches have been all over the place.
The newer Ecobee's can run entirely locally through their homekit integration. I tie mine into home assistant and use it that way. I would never have bought the device if that wasn't available.
If this old version doesn't have that available then I'm assuming people purchased it knowing that it was reliant on cloud services. It would be nice if they offered customers options besides just letting the device turn into e-waste but you can understand why they don't want to burn development hours on a device that's a decade and a half old.
Just another reason to never buy devices that can't function without a cloud service.
This makes me curious about the effect of nozzle shape on the output. Would a square holed nozzle work or look different than a normal round nozzle? What about an oval or star shape? Hmmm.
If you primarily game using Steam then it's easier than ever on most popular distros. Biggest hassle is likely still GPU drivers. I've never had any issues there but depending on what card you have you may be better off with either proprietary or FOSS drivers depending on what your distro of choice likes to provide by default. After that most games tend to just work, a handful may require you to pick a beta version of proton or something.
If you want to try it and don't want to do a lot of tinkering check out PopOS. It's probably the friendliest distro for gaming out of the box.
Pop_OS is based on Ubuntu. It's developed by System76 which sells linux laptops that run their distro by default so it's very well maintained and polished.
It's a popular recommendation specifically for people looking out to try gaming on Linux because there are specific features built in like performance improvements for gaming and some gaming-specific packages whereas Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora and OpenSuse are generally designed to be a general purpose distro. Pop_OS delivers packages as flatpacks by default as opposed to Ubuntu's snaps which are a bit controversial and also uses their Cosmic desktop environment by default (though as far as I know gnome, kde, xfce, etc all still work fine if you have a preference).
Mostly I recommend Pop_OS for people that are new to Linux, don't know about why they might prefer one distro over another, and want to try it out with the minimal amount of hassle. If you aren't gaming Pop_OS is still great but that's one of it's selling points.
I think you're on to something actually. Back when Saints Row 3 came out I read an article explaining how it's childish irreverence toward gender was actually sort of progressive. In character creation there is a boob slider and a dick slider (with insane proportions for both), character voice doesn't have to match the body type, there are no gender restrictions on clothing, characters are available to romance no matter your gender, etc.
Basically the game was so unrestrained and goofy that it subverted some uncomfortable gaming tropes like boob sliders by just letting players do whatever they wanted and not taking it too seriously.

Seamlessly syncing game saves between my Deck and my primary gaming PC is so nice. Before I travel I just make sure to wake up the deck long enough to get updates and sync saves.
For non steam games I use syncthing but that always requires just a little bit of work.
