I got on ICQ in 97 or 98 to keep up with friends from a MUD and mine was 7 digits. I haven't logged into it in over a decade because when I went back to see if anyone from the old game was around none ever showed up online.
I take B vitamins because I don't feel like a dirt grub after a bender. I'm not worried about living longer or I wouldn't go on benders. I just want to feel good while I'm here.
Came here to say this. I've worked on systems for a restaurant on the beach and it was corroded as hell. We had the wireless access points in cheap "weatherproof" boxes and they got corroded. We replaced them once a year or so because it was so bad.

You're right, and he softened his stance with age (as well as his stance on sexism). To add to it on a personal level, I also enjoy the works of H.P. Lovecraft and he was wildly racist even compared to his peers.
It's less about judging him by today's standards than it is about lamenting that I'll never be able to think of his work without remembering his racist views. I also can't watch Call Girl of Cthulhu without remembering Lovecraft's cat's name. I can separate the art and science from the artist and scientist, especially if they're dead so that they can't benefit from it, but because of my own past (I was raised with a lot of passive racism by well meaning people) I can't forget what they said.
Disclaimer: I am not trolling, I am an autistic person who doesn’t understand so many social nuances. Also I am from New Hampshire (97% white), so I just don’t have any close African-American friends that I am willing to risk asking such a loaded question.
I heard white racists make fun of black people for that a lot when I was younger. But we ate it when I was a kid because we were poor and that was cheap and delicious.
So you're telling me that if we just started grinding cops into a fine powder we'd not only save on their salaries and benefits, we'd also save on the amount of equipment they need and could fund things like libraries and social safety nets? And that we could sell that fine powder for uses such as food for heads, surgery, delousing, cosmetics, bomb disposal, firepower, and head transplants and fund even more things?
I'm not saying we should be grinding cops into a fine powder. I'm saying let's take a look at where we could save more money while helping more people.
Torgo's Police Powder is certainly not a thing we should turn those fucking pigs into. No sir. And if someone tries laying this at my feet I'll deny it.
They've got 55 police per 10,000 residents. That's more than twice as many as LA per capita with a 3% decrease in violent crime per capita. That tells me we could, but definitely shouldn't, grind up one fifth of them into a fine powder freeing up a whole bunch of money in the budget. NYC does seem to have a significantly smaller property crime rate than the national average but that number is suspect. How much of that is them just not dealing with property crime and not filing the paperwork?
And that $5b? That's not their whole budget, that's their personnel budget. Total budget for FY2025 is closer to $11.9b/yr. Their salary is closer to 80k/yr/officer on average.
They won't have me, friend. I can stand on a stage and sound like a Pentecostal preacher. I'm not inbred but I dress like I am. With exactly the right amount of alcohol I'm pretty likable (too little and I'm weird, too much and I'm over the top, and the difference is razor thin). And there's pictures of me at a whole bunch of Pride events and taco trucks. I support the gays and the immigrants.
It's an uphill battle that I'm not prepared for, don't really have time for, and have no desire to get into. But we've got 2 years to find someone who hasn't said "Hell, yes, we're going to take your AR-15, your AK-47". There are a lot of single issue firearm voters in Texas, as stupid as that is. I like Beto but pragmatically there's no way back from that statement here at this time.
There may be enough cop hate here to run on a platform of grinding 1/5th of them into a fine powder. Even the staunchly red area I come from hates the cops, who are at best thought of as meddling piles of shit.
They'd do that if you literally distributed all the money in the world to the 1% and killed the poor. The least rich would become the new poor and the most rich would be begging for rights to take their yachts, rape their dogs, and empty their bank accounts along with that interest rate cut.
I have a task to do in 8 hours. If I start the 5 hour and 5 minute task now it'll probably run over because I know I procrastinate. So I'm going to sit here anxiously until it's time for my task, play guitar to pass the time, forget about both tasks, and not actually start anything for two more days.
Then in two days I'll accomplish like 100 of those tasks that I've put off and the people expecting to see me that day just get upset.
Yep. I made a comment this morning about how not everyone who flies the stars and bars really understands why it's a hateful symbol with this show as one of the points (there are others I won't go through). Someone else pointed out that the neighboring Sheriff Little was black and was shown to be a way more competent character (not a good guy, but not a dumb , racist stereotype either) than Roscoe P. Coletrane or Jefferson Davis Hogg. The show literally made fun of the guy who was named for the president of the Confederacy.
That flag should never have been used for the good guys but they were "rebels". Showing it was supposed to cement that into the people's minds. It was stupid and short sighted. It also worked to make people feel like if they identified as a good guy rebel they could proudly display that flag.

Yep. I've done exactly that. Something overlooked a lot of places is to actually start an LLC (it does cost a bit, especially if you're strapped) if you can because that protects you. If you screw something up by accident a company can either come after you personally or the business that employs you.
And an accountant, but yeah this is solid advice. It was definitely something I knew but didn't realize that it's harder than it looks back when I did it.

I want to know how many bald eagle wingspans it is. Even if they gave me the measurement in Lonestar Beer bottles I could work it out for myself.
If I assume the thing is about 40 Lonestar Beer bottles long (that's a big fucking snake), that gets me from the 40 yard line to the 30 yard line on a football field. You can fit about 5 average bald eagles there wingtip to wingtip.
You're right, and it's only been a few thousand years. I'll still complain to anyone who will listen. If I don't complain how will you know I really enjoy the series?
I desensitized myself years ago by looking at the worst I could find. It was bad for my mental health so I stopped. Now I'm no longer desensitized and a lot of things affect me again.

Veteran here. Yep. I am pretty alright I guess, but I don't have the time or energy to fight for all the shit I should have gotten. Fuck that. It breaks my shriveled little heart to watch people I served with having to fight tooth and nail to get a new fucking prosthetic because theirs broke and being held together by duct tape, only to have their new one break walking through the damn parking lot on the way out of the VA.
I remember the TechTV days before G4 took over. AotS was fun but never really replaced Screen Savers. Then G4 did whatever the fuck it did (mostly airing ghost hunters from what I remember) and went off air so we lost that too. Then there was the terrible attempt at revival a few years ago that failed spectacularly.
TWiT is still going though. Maybe something cool will come out of this.
Sporting goods stores absolutely need them. Licensed firearms dealers at shows absolutely need them. Those are not the issue because according to the Brady Act, if a vendor is a federally licensed firearms dealer (FFL), they are required to perform a background check prior to completing the sale of the firearm.
Speaking purely of Texas because that's where I know things, the issue is that there are some (quite a few) shows that allow "private collectors" to sell at the shows and that's perfectly legal. Even if they don't technically allow it there are folks who walk around shows with a card so if they see you are interested in a certain firearm they'll try to sell you one from their "collection". These private collectors have loads of inventory and contacts with other private collectors so they can point you to their friend and get a kickback or buy one off their friend and immediately sell it to you. So technically it's a private sale which does not require a background check but these people are definitely running a business in all but name.
It's estimated that in Texas that somewhere between 25-50% of sales from gun shows currently constitute private sales. That's a wide range because these private sellers are not required to report or record their sales.
Yep. You can play alone, couch co-op with controllers, or with friends online if that's what you're into. I've logged a couple of hundred hours alone and another hundred or so couch co-op.
