There were a number of exciting announcements from Apple at WWDC 2024, from macOS Sequoia to Apple Intelligence. However, a subtle addition to Xcode 16 — the development environment for Apple platforms, like iOS and macOS — is a feature called Predictive Code Completion. Unfortunately, if you bought into Apple's claim that...
I’ve run Plex servers on Mac Minis (M1). Docker on MacOS runs well finally — the issues that were everywhere a couple of years ago are resolved.
It ran very well on the hardware. The OP of this post is right, 8gb is not enough in 2024; however I would also wager that the vast majority of commenters have not used MacOS recently or regularly. It is actually very performant and has a memory scheduler that rivals that found on GNU/Linux. Apple’s users aren’t wrong when they talk about how much better the OS is than Windows at using memory.
MacOS’s memory scheduler is leaps and bounds better than what Windows uses. It’s more apt to compare the RAM on a machine running MacOS to one running a common Linux distro. Windows needs more RAM than the other two by two to three times because it’s fuckterrible at using it.

This has been the law for a while, it's just that more Circuits are aligning. Don't use biometrics if you don't want LEO to be able to access your phone. A password is covered by 5A in some circuits and in others it's likely sufficient to just refuse or claim faulty memory due to the stress of the situation. Regardless of the location, the contents of the device are covered by 4A and you may succeed in getting a lot of whatever is found thrown out -- classic you can beat the rap, but you can't beat the ride.
iPhones have been getting thicker year over year since the 11. The 15 is the largest jump in thickness over that period, too. It’s actually pretty reasonable that Apple would seek to return to at least the last prior model’s form factor.
I was almost convinced when I set up my kid’s new gaming pc and had to spend an hour updating and then debloating the installation and turning off all the advertising and telemetry. Then, a week later I saw an ad for Tik Tok in my own Start Menu. That was what made me finally move over to Linux completely.
That said, I cannot imagine being on Windows by choice at this point. In 2024 Id rather be on macOS than Windows if forced to choose between the two.
I like the philosophy and approach from them, but I think one of those Tuxedo ARM notebooks will be my next computer purchase. I’ve been jealous of the speed and battery life of people around me with M-Series MacBooks for a few years now, but unwilling to go to the OS and Asahi isn’t there for me yet.
French President Emmanuel Macron has dissolved the lower house of parliament and announced fresh elections after his party's poor performance in the EU elections. His party was defeated by the far-right National Rally....
France is just an odder case than most parliamentary systems. In short, this places the heads of government closer to the will of the people and requires more coalition building when there isn't a clear consensus for policy from the electorate.

A big biometric security company in the UK, Facewatch, is in hot water after their facial recognition system caused a major snafu - the system wrongly identified a 19-year-old girl as a shoplifter.
If it works anything like Apple’s Face ID twins don’t actually map all that similar. In the general population the probability of matching mapping of the underlying facial structure is approximately 1:1,000,000. It is slightly higher for identical twins and then higher again for prepubescent identical twins.
No you misunderstood. That is a reduction in commonality by a literal factor of one million. Any secondary verification point is sufficient to reduce the false positive rate to effectively zero.
ST is good out of the gate. I found it just fell off hard after S1. Hat’s off to the marketing team though. They saturated the internet with gifs and image macros and even managed to get a meme template generated.
The "talent" doesn't have a platform without them. This is a mutually beneficial relationship. The "talent would be waiting tables and playing for peanuts in bars without the industry professionals.
I don't know whether it's a popular opinion or not, but I think Dr. Pulaski was a great character and I found her much more interesting than Dr. Crusher. I don't know if it was down to the writing or the performance but Pulaski is one of the best parts of season 2 and I would have been happy to see her character continue....
I know she’s getting a lot of love online recently, but I just don’t agree. She’s written as a dollar-store McCoy because the show didn’t know what the wanted and her acting is as stiff and blunt as it comes. Not only is Crusher a more interesting character, Gates is a much better actress.

That no testimony is sufficient to establish a miracle, unless the testimony be of such a kind, that its falsehood would be more miraculous, than the fact, which it endeavours to establish; and even in that case there is a mutual destruction of arguments, and the superior only gives us an assurance suitable to that degree of force, which remains, after deducting the inferior.
