Oh good so it's not just me. Yes that is Blackboard

I was actually thinking about this. I think it's partially because in both pictures, items which have a totally different function are graphically uniform (eg. in the bottom picture, one of the boxes takes you to an action, but another opens a passive PDF), and there are no icons. It's like if on your computer, the setting app had the same icon as an ordinary folder.

And in Blackboard you see multiple levels of the app's hierarchy on the screen at once — sometimes multiple levels are shown uniformly in the same UI element.

The best pranks are the ones that people pull when they know they don't risk revenge

Don't know why I'm depressed when I've solved the cause

I've been having quite a stressful period of exams recently and at one point I started feeling a mixture of burnt out and depressed. I immediately stopped preparing for the exams, and to ease the thought that I would need to manage 2 more years of this (this is what triggered the depression), I started making plans to switch to...

Is it possible that the idea of switching to a different degree, while easier, may be less fulfilling in someway?

I was just thinking about this actually. Perhaps it's because I'm trapped in a choice with stress either way: either stress from completing a demanding degree, or stress from the imposter syndrome I'd get from trying to get into the field I'm interested in with a easier but less relevant degree. :-/

Hmm, ok I'll consider it. Whenever I've had it before it went away after I solved the problem. And I've only had it for a week atm. But I will if it carries on like this.

Did that ease your latent anxiety as well? Have you been on both?

I wouldn't be so pessimistic, the erosion of democracy is usually a relatively slow process. Poland went 8 years under its equivalent to NF and still managed to win its democracy back.

How did they enshittify your country specifically? I want to compare it with how neoliberalism enshittified the UK.

3rd year in university and getting nowhere. What should I do?

Lemmy, I have completed tens of modules across several different universities. I have been course-hopping for long enough that I’d have a bachelors degree by now had I found and stayed on a course that suited me. I can’t be asked to commit to one and study it for yet another 3 years before I get a degree*. Yet I feel like...

The video concludes with Christophers arguing that capitalism is not a solution to the climate crisis because it prioritizes the interests of capital over the well-being of the planet.

This could be solved if we could put a number on the well being of the planet. And if we could pay with it. If this wasn't possible we'd have to find an alternative to money/transaction based economic systems.

What is fascinating though is that they get called too radical by most voters. (Although how they formed that opinion and who it was influenced by is another thing).

Wait, what are the other options? Btw a USSR-style planned economy falls outside the term market economy, even thoughthey had money, right?

My pet opinion is that banning publicly traded companies would be a good start. Having companies be family owned would create a natural limit on how mich growth CEOs feel they need.

Thank you for this eye opening post. I think I can describe my positions as market socialist. I haven't yet formed an opinion on de-growth, but one thing I think we should definitely do is ban publicly traded companies (except for a few niche exceptions), as I feel that family ownership would put a natural limit on how much growth CEOs feel they need. Alternatively, income tax could be made to approach 100% as a person's income approached infinity (to cause diminishing returns on growth), although this might have the side effect of making the state dangerously rich.

Another thing I wonder about is how to make sure this works globally. Anti-growth economic reforms might have at least a chance of passing in well-funcitoning democracies, but I don't see how this could be made to happen in kleptocracies or a random African country.

That's true, I've found that just like how there are moments when you feel less and more prepared to jump into cold water or step into a cold shower, there are moments when I feel less and more ready to face that guilt, so it is worth taking a moment to wait for the feeling to be right.
