So they can strap the aid workers to the front of their trucks maybe

RedditWanderer ,

Right. Nothing to do with Israel killing a large number of aid workers and destroying supplies, while killing civilians who try to get to them. It's Hamas holding back sitting on piles of food... Makes sense.

RedditWanderer ,

Unlike all those Palestinian kids amarite.

RedditWanderer ,

Oh I see, killing childen is okay because of "those people who are making israel do it". Makes perfect sense now thank you.

RedditWanderer ,

Guy let it go. You've already admitted you understand that Israel is killing children because the Palestinian government is fucked. A lot of us understand the nuances of the Palestinian government being fucked, we still don't think it should be open-season on the Palestinian kiddos, civilians and hospitals.

That being said, you may go have passionate intercourse with your cranial apparel.

RedditWanderer ,

So youve donated a bunch and now stopped? Right? Anakin?

RedditWanderer ,

Exactly. And somehow the top of the article says

According to new research, skipping breakfast or excessive screen time are risk factors for developing obesity

Oh yah, it's definitely because kids skip breakfast (and the 22g of sugar per teaspoon) and screens.

The 2 best ways to clear a nose.

The first is you exhale as long as you can through your nose and then pinch it with a tissue as if you were going to blow your nose. Then keep hold your breath and tilt your head up, then down, then up, then down... Continuously until you absolutely cannot breathe. Then blow your nose and both sides will clear out completely.

The second is to lay down "like one of your french girls" meme, with your head held up in your hand leaning on your elbow. If you are on your left side, the right nostril will clear, and if your on your right side the left nostril will start clearing. This helps get the pressure down.

These work 100% of the time, but for short periods (because of anatomical reasons) but what a relief. Enjoy

4ish years ago when I bought a house I was convinced not to get a house inspection, would it be crazy to get one now just to make sure it's all good?

Was 25 and super nervous, so when the realtor was like "oh yeah they just check for basic stuff, but I looked around and it looks great" I was like "Oh okay, this is so astronomically expensive every penny saved is good..."...

RedditWanderer ,

Depends on where you live.

The bank will often send an inspector for a loan, but it's literally him just walking around and validating there is a house and it's not in shambles. He'll look at things like the roof from the outside and when it was redone, but isn't going to hop into your crawlspace to look for signs of water damage.

Then you have the "private" inspection company that you can pay to check your home for yourself. These companies are know to cost a lot of money, often detailing things they can't be sure are "risks". They'll go in the crawlspace and note all sorts of things.

On my house the expensive private inspection said "the roof here is kinda saggin and there's a bump there, it could be anything". In the same report he accidentally shows a picture from under the roof where you can see there was a repair and some extra framing, causing the small "bump" that is purely aesthetic. Didn't mention that part.

Getting someone to look at it post purchase is likely going to be much cheaper, and I'm definitely not recommending people don't get inspections when buying houses if they don't know what they're doing.

RedditWanderer ,

I saved 50k on my house because some private company was hired to do an inspection and they noted a 40 page report with all sorts of shit that wasn't really important.

Nobody wanted to buy it after that. Luckily I build houses so I know what to look for and cut him a deal to get rid of it. Aside from having an electrician come in to double check all the aluminum wiring connections (and making plans to replace the aluminium wires), not one thing in those 40 pages should have affected the price of the house.

RedditWanderer ,

First all companies were afraid of giving access to these models, for trade secret issues and security. But then they basically all met at the white house to agree that they would make way more fucking money stealing it than they would pay in restitution or damages to people and small businesses.

Suddenly everybody had a chatbot and generated art ready for commercial sale. They also had to make the shift quickly enough before official laws and protections (mostly from the EU) came in.

Now AI is plateauing a bit so they must hurry to get valuated at 10 trillion dollars and get their energy needs subsidized and have taxpayers invest into the nation's energy requirements on their behalf.

RedditWanderer ,

Yeah they should have never been allowed to search there in the first place.

RedditWanderer ,

"one fraudulent company from India". Which part of this being Amazon's walk out technology makes it not big tech, or a "weak ai story"?

AI is turning out to be a lot less promising than we thought, unless new breakthroughs are made the models are plateauing or even getting worse, at least relative to the amount of energy they consume.. And companies like openai are in rush to sell you the idea for trillions of dollars before everyone realises the limits. Same as amazon trying to sell us Ai powered shopping.

There was no confusion around who delisted it

RedditWanderer ,

There's been confirmation for 7 days.

This is steamdb change list for HD2. This is a developer update.

The "speculation" was just clickbait. There are multiple articles confirming it over the last week.

RedditWanderer , (edited )

Steam doesn't push changelists from developer accounts, and don't push it themselves without making a major announcement. This is why all the reporting on this has been clear AH/Sony delisted it. There are countless articles confirming this days ago.

Article from 2 days ago

Sony made the strange decision to delist Helldivers 2 from over 150 different countries in which the PlayStation Network isn't supported, though we're still not quite sure for what reason.

RedditWanderer ,

Any articles for this speculation or uncertainty? Because that's also something Valve would be quick to shut down and point to Sony, for legal reasons.

Or is this all reddit threads from people who don't understand how steam works?

RedditWanderer ,

So there was no speculation, you just hoped these articles straight up lied.

RedditWanderer ,

We knew who delisted the game, because steam doesn't just do that.

RedditWanderer ,

Lmao because you changed media to news/links it's somehow adjacent?

I can't believe the number of comments like this one. All these online platforms are social media

Social media
websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking.

RedditWanderer ,

Facebook isn't like instagram, instagram isn't like tiktok, tiktok isn't like lemmy, Lemmy isn't like Twitter, but they are all social media.

When people find communities like making bread or wtv and share tips and pictures, that's networking. Plenty of support communities too.

Most create content, and post it publicly for other social circles to see their media. It's social media lol

RedditWanderer ,

Ah yes, the arbitrary definitions of the dictionary are my opinion. Well formed argument

RedditWanderer ,

Yeah that's a badly written sentence. "Most post for other social circles to see their media when they create content".

Doesn't change the arguments that this is social media. Lemmings and reditors just like to feel special

RedditWanderer ,

So now i'm "throwing a tantrum" because saying I was inventing definitions (from the dictionary) didn't work. Seems like youre the one throwing a tantrum because you were wrong. My argument is fine and far from pedantic. Saying "news and links" aren't "media" is what's pedantic

RedditWanderer ,

Essentially , but that wouldn't be totally correct, youre framing it that way to make a strawman. The definition is:

Social media
websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking.

So written words, shared on a platform made to exchange words and images publicly for others to discuss/comment on, if you really don't want to use the dictionary.

RedditWanderer , (edited )

This graph is such bullshit. If you were being honest in your arguments there would be no need to alter the results of the study.

This is the original graph - "About the same" answers were given directly to "worse", fabricating results.

This is the study. Despite their life "not being better" on average, they still conclude that Communism has its downsides and are in no way saying they want to go back to it.

I know how to opt out! I can opt out of buying a honda!

I have chronic sleeping problems therefore I love(d) taking naps but waking up afterwards is absolute hell. What should I do? **Edit: I have found a short-term solution**

I am currently struggling heavily with depression. Which impacts my quality of sleep. Sleep now has never been a talent of mine. So I generally make up for it by napping. I used to absolutely love it. Both the initial and the waking up (feeling well rested). But lately the waking up part is getting more and more difficult. It...

RedditWanderer , (edited )

Read up on sleep cycles and how long your body likes to nap! If you wake up from deep sleep you are groggy for a long time after.

I routinely get hammered till late but as long as I sleep 3, 4.5, 6 hours specifically, I'm fine. Even if I have 4 hours ahead of me, I wake myself up after 3 to snooze and not go into a deep sleep.

There's a similar timing for naps.

Edit: I'm 35, that probably matters in context

the bird will never land on your ship if you constantly stand guard to catch it, instead improve your ship and sail into warmer waters; the bird will land while you are not looking

RedditWanderer ,

The warmer waters could also mean a place of comfort for you, and by being in a place you like and being comfortable you are more likely to meet someone compatible. It also feels less like a chore because you don't have to chase or get out of your comfort zone so much.

I like to be alone, I hate when it gets too loud and can easily get overwhelmed by crowds. My wife and I spend plenty of time doing things in our own space or spending weeks apart. We both value alone time. Find yourself someone who values what you value.

RedditWanderer ,

"Aerospace firm" is pretty generous. They're a defense contractor.

RedditWanderer ,

So many threads about Hello Games (No Man's Sky) and other Sony backed titles being "victims". They knew what they were doing,

RedditWanderer ,

What does it matter if the game "launches successfully" if it doesn't sustain itself? They knew theyd likely lose their players but they were hoping theyd be special - this game is not successful in the end.

Your entire argument boils down to: they wouldn't have been able to cheat us into thinking this was a good game without sony. If theyre going to take my money and kill the game anyway, it would have been better to not make it at all. That's what thousands of indie devs have to contend with every day.

RedditWanderer , (edited )

Unless there's evidence that AH got a special deal, there's no chance they didn't know this was an eventual requirement.

I've been an engineer in the AA/AAA games industry for almost 2 decades, my job often involves assessing the technical feasibility of games that big publishers like Sony want to invest in/ acquire.

Someone somewhere at AW agreed to shove PSN sign-in requirements in the deal, hoping it would blow over like many games before. (e.g rocket league / epic account debacle). Now the devs are sorry it's not working out and say "their hands are tied", but they must have known this was coming. There are way too many legal ramifications for this to be a random power-move by Sony.

Edit: sony apparently lifted the requirement today

RedditWanderer ,

The worlds video game industry*.

They got really buffed on investments during the pandemic like we were going to stay in our house for the rest of our lives.

Now interest is high and investors aren't as excited. It wouldn't hurt for the industry to crash and get rid of these moneygrabbers who are in for a short peak, we'd have better games

RedditWanderer ,

I tried to turn in my buckets of thank yous at the bank but they didn't take em. Gonna be windows for now

Literally what he did with the cars. "If we don't put good technology in them we don't have to pay for anything!".

Same with Twitter.
