I know I'm preaching to the choir but for the people interviewing for their first software gig
First software gig? In this market, take whatever to get experience imo.
But that second/third/etc job? Culture, then salary, then everything else. Last interview I went to bragged about giving everyone brand new sneakers yet pay $25k less than average.
As the title says, what are the risks, I assume people don’t host these servers for no reason. Is it just the ad revenue they get from the popups when trying to start the movie....
I work at a web hosting company and we'd get requests from "da guberment". They were usually warrants and asking us to transfer data.
Never ever did they go, "Keep that racist white power pushing for violence website up and available to the public". Without legal action, a govt can't demand a private company what to do.
Not saying they haven't tried, but we have the lawyers give us the direction to take.
It's been difficult to broach the subject and explain the technical concepts to the average person. I did have some success in first sharing the email comparison, which lead into interoperability....

Currently reading Nobodys Normal by anthropologist Roy Richard Grinker.
It's a hard read as I'm constantly googling how he did his research. But I do absolutely agree with his theory that "normal" assumes there's a baseline of what that looks like. And that data is impossible to get at the current time, only when you look back on it.
For example, we have data to identify what normal can look like in 1920 based on averages. But it'll be pretty racist and not what people want to hear, and it's also missing a lot like accurate health records and the huge percentage of people who were misdiagnosed or undocumented.
You know those anime girls who try to be obnoxiously cute, where they raise their voice to a high pitch? Then off screen, they're back to their regular tone?
For people with high pitched voices... Is that a choice?
You know how when you think about breathing, you start to "think" about breathing? How it moves in and out of the body? And then you learn all other weird things about breathing?
Do you really want to understand ball science? To understand where things move and go around and flex?
Why I'm trying to say is sometimes, ignorance is bliss.

In 2020 (?) joined that Google One program where the promise was you pay a monthly fee and every two years, you get a new Pixel phone "for free". Not the latest, but last gens model. It looked really good on paper.
I'm cheap. I did the math and it cost less to do this than buy used from Swappa. And knowing Google's awful track record for customer service and killing products, I joined fully aware to keep my expectations low.
After 2 years, I was eligible for an upgrade. And the program changed. It was no longer a monthly fee, but pay $500 for a new phone. And worse, that Google phone died two months after the warranty ended. Google wanted to charge me $300 to repair the phone.
If you buy anything Google, keep your expectations down. Like really down.
I always got the feeling that this game was seen as a classic. I never owned a Gamecube growing up, but I'm pretty sure I remember my friend having one and playing Sunshine a bit (although he was way more into Zelda and Smash)....
I feel the same way as the poster. I was expecting acrobatic movement like in 64. But so many of platforming puzzle revolved around the FLUDD. Kinda glad Galaxy and Odyssey returned to more about Mario himself.

Police officers don't need to know the laws unfortunately. And depending on how much melanin you have determines if you should explain or if youre better off just saying "yes sir can I go".
We watched a show where there was a concept called a Dead man's switch, and my wife asked me if I would ever do something similar, but include all my passwords, for everything.
When I found a loophole for cheap Wendy's food, I absolutely abused it a dozen times as a poor college student. It involves receipts and going to different Wendy's.
NGL I apply to places where I use the software. But it's not one thing, it's a dozen things I would fix.
I actually never successfully got the job. Probably because during the interview, I come off like a rambling psychopath pointing out extremely specific things.
My wife's parents went crazy lead brained. They went pure antivaxxer and said if we don't want our kids to have grandparents, then get vaccinated. We lolled and said, "Bye".
It's been four years now.
They now pretend like they didn't say that every few months by sending us gifts and cards, that we promptly give away to charity.
I was thinking about how I missed having an indoor thermometer that measures humidity. It's such a small specific thing, one I'd never think of getting unless pushed to it (which I was by one particularly dry winter). But I like having one now....
