Not still, but again. Moved back when Covid hit and my company started to allow working from home. Honestly, I prefer it. Lived in a tiny city apartment, now I live in a large house in a village, with a garden and lots of nature around. The house would be too large and expensive for my mom to live there alone, so it makes sense for both of us.

PonyOfWar ,

Much of the world is moving in that direction. The many crises of recent years and an uncertain future outlook for humanity are fertile ground for extremists promising easy solutions and "going back to the good old days".

PonyOfWar ,

Nice. I guess they didn't expect to get a majority to support it anymore. Definitely a win for now, but I'm sure they'll try again.

PonyOfWar , (edited )

Either way they can just give it a new name and change some details to propose it again. Like how they made it "voluntary" this time (but you can only send text if you don't agree).

PonyOfWar ,

Source? In Germany at least that's not the case, it's mainly the conservatives who push for it. In the original vote, only the greens clearly opposed it. Later on, SPD (center-left) and FDP (liberal) changed course to also oppose it. Couldn't find results for other countries though, so I'm genuinely curious.

Vegetarian here. It's not something I'd personally buy or use in meals, as I don't really have the desire to eat meat. That said, if it happened to be in a dish I really want to try at a restaurant, sure I'd eat it.

When you stopped caring about staying in good shape?

I completely stopped caring about 2 years ago, I realized I was never going to do anything with my good look and that I will never get into a relationship in my life, so I just figured out "what's the point then, I'm already invisible to women?" And I don't care about my health tbh......

PonyOfWar ,

Was pretty much the other way round for me, realized around age 25 or so that I'd spend the later part of my life feeling like shit with constant back problems if I didn't get out more. So these days I make a point of getting out on my bike or going on longer walks at least a couple times a week. Not for looks or women, but for myself.

Is it theoretically possible for Windows 11 to delete pirated content on your PC?

I heard Windows 11 has been updated to take screenshots of your computer. Is it theoretically possible for them to delete content from your PC or external hard drives if they can determine that you have pirated content on them? Can they theoretically report you for it? I know it's unlikely but is it still possible? I'm thinking...

PonyOfWar , (edited )

Anything is theoretically possible on a closed source operating system. But it's not likely. First of all, this "feature" is only compatible with "Copilot+" PCs, so your system probably won't even get it. It also would run foul of privacy laws in in many places. Especially if they did that while claiming the screenshots only stay local. That'd be a huge lawsuit waiting to happen.

It's not new, nor is it AI. Predictive text suggestions have been in Android for ages now.

PonyOfWar ,

users can reach speeds up to 20-plus MPH fairly easily (that’s 9,743 Kilometers per hour for my non-US readers).

I know you guys in the US have faster e-bikes, but almost 8 times the speed of sound seems a little bit excessive.

I wouldn't start with retro hardware, those systems have a lot of quirks and limitations that will make development much harder than it needs to be for your first projects. Instead I'd suggest using a modern toolkit like Gamemaker if you want to avoid programming, or an engine like Godot. Lots of good tutorials available for either.

Lots of Russia and China apologists there. The interactions of their userbase with other communities often seemed pretty toxic and rude as well, mainly resorting to shitposting with very few attempts at genuine discussions. At least those were my impressions when they were still federated with my instance. I don't miss them.

PonyOfWar ,

Their strict moderation has odd blind spots though. I just had a look at their front page to see what it's like these days. They have a news article up since 15 hours that claims France has sent troops to Ukraine, which is just straight up fake news. Apparently allowed to stay up as long as it fits the narrative though.

PonyOfWar ,

Yes, they do, although the top comment at this point talks about how it's "literally a declaration of war" and the second to top claims that WW3 has started. You have to dig 3 comment chains down until anyone even questions the article. In any case, I don't see how that's relevant to my point about moderation.

PonyOfWar ,

People feeling entitled on the internet were always a thing.

PonyOfWar ,

What's the issue with just ignoring them? I really don't think making open-source software intentionally obscure because annoying people exist is a great idea. Ultimately we want more people to use FOSS instead of corporate software.

PonyOfWar ,

Sources state Glance will not capture data, but will instead leverage a user’s “patterns” to offer recommendations.

Those "patterns" are literally data. What a nonsensical sentence.

PonyOfWar ,

Seriously, I hope Mozilla dies so that it can be reborn by a different org that gives a fuck about browsers, because Mozilla sure as hell doesn’t.

And why do you think that would happen as opposed to Chromium just becoming the only browser engine available?

PonyOfWar ,

Because religion provides comfort, community and a meaning to people's existence that goes beyond "we were born of chance on an insignificant rock somewhere in the universe".

(I'm not religious BTW)
