LLMs are a start. I can see it being the machine/human interface to a broard array of specialized applications. If we want to see true ai we'll need to add efficient complexity, and perhaps, if we don't want it to exclusively be contained in a platonic type realm, we'll need our programs direct access and explore our physical one.

Yeah the doughnuts are still good. Not as good as the days they used to bake in house. Tim Hortons is just a quick convenient way to get not-horrendous coffee. It was never gourmet and shouldn't be compared as such.

China doesn't care as much about regulations. They're okay with massive pollution and slave labour. Do you want to live with that massive lower quality of life to produce cheap products you still can't properly afford because your wages have been cut? There is a tricky balance to keep China as our personal factory and not lose our ability to afford the things they make.

Israel jews are a different breed than the holocaust survivors. Germany paid reparations to Israel and barely, if any, actually made it to the actual survivors. They're generally not a good people. But I have seen protests and legit compassion from them to know that it's always the loudest voices that are most often heard.
