😸 "time to go shit in that flower bed"

Paradachshund ,

I think it is a bit of an unclear wording personally. "Made with", despite technically meaning what you're saying, is often colloquially used to mean "fully created by". I don't mind the AI tag, but I do see the photographers point about it implying wholesale generation instead of touchups.

Censors are not the brightest bulbs most of the time.

How does this one still work? Does it do it in a different way than the old apps did?

Paradachshund ,

After watching the new dune movie I got inspired to play through a campaign on Dune: Spice Wars. So probably that!

Is there any significance to people using emojis that match their skin tone?

I'm asking because as a light-skinned male, I always use the standard Simpsons yellow. I don't really see other light-skinned people using an emoji that matches their skin tone, but often do see people of color use them. Maybe white people don't naturally realize a need to be explicit with emoji skin-tone or perhaps it's seen as...

Paradachshund ,

I can give you a real answer, because I asked my wife this exact question (she's black and uses the skin tone closest to hers, I'm white and also just use yellow ones). She said it's so rare to get to choose a digital representation that matches her skin tone that she just thinks it's fun to get to do it for once.

I agree with this. I've always seen the rules as a framework to assist in collaborative story telling and keep things impartial and surprising. At any point where they begin to do more harm than good, we can change them.

Paradachshund ,

I definitely dislike the idea of stopping the action and suggesting a direction. For my games I always try to aim for immersion, and this would really take me out of it.

I think you might have gotten the wrong idea about how I approach it, though. Part of keeping things surprising and impartial is avoiding changing things all the time secretly. That being said, I don't believe in a hard and fast rule of never fudging anything.

Here's an example where I would consider it. The players have been trying really hard to overcome an obstacle, and have had many setbacks already. They come up with an exciting and novel solution, but a bad roll happens on my end that would end this great idea in another failure. Because they've earned it by this point, and it will make for a more exciting game, I would likely fudge that roll and give it to them. I would do this in secret, because calling attention to it deflates the experience for the players.

I see the GM as a storyteller and entertainer, whose primary goal is to immerse the players into a story, and to create an exciting and unpredictable experience. Not everyone will view things like I do, and that's fine, but I wanted to clarify what I mean anyway. Hopefully that makes more sense now.

Paradachshund ,

I definitely agree that the beauty of ttrpgs is how many different things they can be to different people. We've got very different styles, but I think it's great you've found a way to play that works for you and your table!

Paradachshund ,

What does someone have to do to prove to youtube they own it?

Paradachshund ,

I believe that's called perfectionism and imposter syndrome. Just remember it's a story in your head and don't give it more credence than it deserves.

Paradachshund ,

Unpopular suggestion these days, but I still find Pandora has the best discovery of the streaming platforms. If you pay for their premium you can make playlists and play songs on demand, too. It's not as good of a UI, but for me it does what I want better than Spotify.

Paradachshund ,

Is there some context for this? I'm gathering they're bringing back gold?

Paradachshund ,

Most of the time print minimums exist because there's a cost for the printer to run the job at all, regardless of size, and that minimum is the lowest amount of products that doesn't sound insane per item. I used to work for a printshop and we had no minimums, but if you only wanted 1 business card, that business card was going to cost like $50+. You could buy 150 for cents more than that because all you were paying for was the setup and the job happening at all. The paper and ink cost wasn't even a factor at that size.

Paradachshund ,

I'm like this. I'd rather talk to someone about things than look them up. It's ok if people don't have time for it, but people who snarkily tell you to "just Google it" are just being rude and missing the point. Obviously I could just Google it, but I'd rather talk to someone about it. That's why I asked.

Paradachshund ,

I really appreciate your take on this. Well put.

The audacity of big tech is long overdue for a reckoning.

Paradachshund ,

I didn't realize Dutch had combo words like German

Paradachshund ,

I share your sadness, but also avoid games that do this. There are many many games out there that aren't doing this and never would. Reward those developers with your time and money.

Paradachshund ,

Corpos are incapable of learning the right lessons. I wouldn't be surprised if the take away from this at Sony was to eliminate internal voices that were against the decision so it's easier to pull off next time.

Paradachshund ,

American here: your cops are above the law, too? 😑

Paradachshund ,

I don't have any specific recommendations but I'm from the Pacific Northwest and it's really interesting to me to see a post like this. Are you from there too?

Paradachshund ,

There's a ton of Scandinavian influence in western Washington state where I'm from. I think you'd feel pretty at home. 🙂

Paradachshund ,

Generally publishers handle storefront and distribution

Paradachshund ,

Same, never had this happen and I've also been in the woods many times.

Paradachshund ,

My friends and I called it a safety meeting when we were young.

Paradachshund ,

Not saying you're wrong, but there's a lot of peace of mind in knowing everything on the platform is drm free, rather than having to do some research. So it is marketing, but it's also a promise of curation so to speak.

Paradachshund ,

So are people from Lesbos all called Lesbians?

Paradachshund ,

I'm sorry to say I don't remember who to attribute this to, but I heard someone say that we're living in an age of data-driven stupidity, and it's hard not to agree.
