Redbox’s owner files for bankruptcy after repeatedly missing payments and payroll ( www.theverge.com )

informed employees of the filing late Friday [...] that it had filed for a debtor-in-possession loan — a way for companies that are reorganizing after filing for bankruptcy to secure additional working capital to meet payroll. [...] employees have been waiting for paychecks since June 21st [...] it’s not certain that the...

The biggest revelation to me is that Chicken Soup for the Soul owns Redbox and Crackle. Just odd.

NegativeInf ,

Isn't he the guy who liked to fuck his horse?

NegativeInf ,

Technically he was! Just the wrong Republic?

NegativeInf ,

Hmm. I think I'll just rewrite this compressive memory code real quick... And it's dawn.

NegativeInf ,

"I don't know James Rolfe" last night... But totally worth it. Every frame a painting and just enthralling for the film choices Dan makes in the production.

NegativeInf ,

Is leaving it docked to the station with leaks contributing to any drift in the movements of the station's orbit?

NegativeInf ,

Well, that's a relief.

NegativeInf ,

Yea. Born early 90s here. Just into my 30s now. I guess I "grew up" in the 00s? I was in the second grade when the towers fell.

NegativeInf ,

Yea. I have 3 little brothers. All of them are gen Z. Being so exposed to the same things they were, I often feel I have a lot more in common with gen Z emotionally, but somehow more financially with millennials.

NegativeInf ,

Nope! Just less hope!

NegativeInf ,

Can.. can you run for governor of Texas? Grinding up 1/5 of our police force is 1000x the platform Abbott is rolling on.

Note: no harm meant to differently abled people. I just hate Abbott, among a litany of other reasons, in that he got paralyzed by a neighbors tree limb falling on him, sued his neighbor for 10 million dollars, got elected, then helped pass legislation to make sure none of us Texan's could ever sue for that amount again. Max is now 250k per person, up to 3 people can sue one asshole, so max 750k for non medical suits. Even fully limiting the types of suits that can be brought. The epitome of "Fuck you, I got mine!"

It's all IP baby. They think we are the unwashed masses with no taste or critical thinking and just consume whatever they excrete.

What I wouldn't give for a Nexus 5 with more modern internals.

Nah, I mean, literally size, shape, external form. Gimme dat soft touch plastic removable back.

I just let old Drawfee episodes play on low volume while I sleep. Multiple familiar voices seems to be more effective to me.

NegativeInf ,

No. He deserves a minute inside the Absolute Perspective Vortex.

NegativeInf ,

Yes. The opposite of blissful ignorance is painful maximal understanding, right? Maybe he should be gifted a "Blessing of Unfathomable Empathy" by a great and powerful witch instead.

Whichever is easiest. Or more painful emotionally.

NegativeInf ,

How do you think they got this way?

NegativeInf ,

I count 39 words in the OP meme, if we just assume the hyphenated words as a single word to give maximal benefit of the doubt.

There are 15 words in the proposed meme from the above comment.

So, where did he use more words?

NegativeInf ,

Even better.

NegativeInf ,

Based on my frequent exploding and vanishing gradients, that would be a yes.

NegativeInf ,

So is it the cops lying or Adams or both?

New York Mayor Eric Adams and senior police officials repeatedly said there were "no injuries," no "violent clashes" and minimal force used.
But at least nine of the 46 protesters arrested inside the barricaded Hamilton Hall on April 30 sustained injuries beyond minor scrapes and bruises, according to medical records, photographs shared by protesters, and interviews. The documented injuries included a fractured eye socket, concussions, an ankle sprain, cuts, and injured wrists and hands from tight plastic flexicuffs

I mean, when there's no commandment against rape and the one for murder doesn't count when their god says it's totes ok bro, take their land and dash their babies against the rocks, they have no moral ground to stand on.

Religion is the language of the oppressors couched in fantasy to make you do their dirty work in the here and now for a payoff that certainly doesn't exist.

Sticky trick: new glue spray kills plant pests without chemicals ( www.theguardian.com )

The insect glue, produced from edible oils, was inspired by plants such as sundews that use the strategy to capture their prey. A key advantage of physical pesticides over toxic pesticides is that pests are highly unlikely to evolve resistance, as this would require them to develop much larger and stronger bodies, while bigger...

While I agree in principle, the people who write the headlines are very often not the writers of the article or the people who are actually working on the solutions to the problems.

NegativeInf ,

You don't think they could, you know, wash them before selling them?

NegativeInf ,

Water+a surfactant. It's oxidized oil emulsified in soap and water already.

Now that's a valid argument. I appreciate that!

Hundreds arrested, roads barricaded in New Caledonia as riots continue ( www.reuters.com )

SYDNEY, May 16 (Reuters) - Armed forces were protecting New Caledonia's two airports and port after a third night of violent riots that have killed four people, the Pacific Island's top French official said on Thursday morning, adding at least four alleged instigators were under house arrest....

NegativeInf ,

Rioting broke out over a new bill, adopted by lawmakers in Paris on Tuesday, that will let French residents who have lived in New Caledonia for 10 years vote in provincial elections - a move some local leaders fear will dilute the indigenous Kanak vote.

So, an island 10500 miles away from France (Literally next to flipping Australia) is ruled by France. They wanna make it so french people that live there can vote in local elections. Sure sounds like a plan to move in more and more rich Europeans to slowly but surely erase its original peoples.

Do they get any say in any self determination? Any representation in the French government?

Also, while saying so many be in poor taste, these riots do seem rather... In keeping with French tradition.

Past Biden? No one else is even on all the ballots in all the necessary states to even come close to 270.

I'm just happy we don't have an idiot saying "Nuke 'em all to glass" like my conservative father.

NegativeInf ,

The ones in Texas all roll coal and good luck if one comes up behind you in the fast lane.

NegativeInf ,

Throw on some striped knee high socks and you're in high demand.

NegativeInf ,

Guess what, one can dress slutty for their own benefit. It doesn't have to be in service of anyone or anything other than satisfying the vibe of the moment. Maybe it's something they have always wanted to try without being the center of attention? Men are so fucked in the head sometimes.

The point being, they are charging 200 bucks for hardware that is superfluous and low end for an incomplete software experience that could be delivered without that on an app. The question is, are you going to give up your smartphone for this new device? Are you going to carry both? Probably not.

"It can do 10% of the shit your phone can do, only slower, on a smaller screen, with its own data connection, and inaccurately because you have to hope that our "AI" is sufficiently advanced to understand a command, take action on that command, and respond in a short amount of time. And that's not to even speak about the horrible privacy concerns or that it's a brick without connection!"

Everything about this project seems lackluster at best, other than maybe the aesthetic design from teenage engineering, but even then, their design work seems a bit repetitive. But that may be due to how the company is asking for the work. "We wanna be like Nothing and Playdate!!" "I gotchu fam!"

To address your point about e-readers, they have specific use cases. Long battery lives, large, efficient e-ink displays, and the convenience of having all your books, or a large subset, available to you offline! But when those things aren't a concern, yea, an app will do.

Like with most contemporary product launches, I simply find myself asking, "Who is this for?"

NegativeInf ,

Also, I have a big ass forehead and no chin. Gotta aim for that balancing point.

NegativeInf ,

Is this a copy pasta? It should be. Saved.

All genres produce 99% crap. All that gets remembered are the best and the god awful.
