There are a lot of places in the US where ideas from the 1800s are still prevalent, because they're so lacking in diversity that there is no one to point out the crimes.

Growing up in rural northern Michigan, I wasn't allowed to take the class our drama teacher taught about making costumes because I was a boy. That same drama department, for a production of West Side Story, got spray tans for all the kids playing Puerto Rican characters. They're still known as one of the best drama programs in the area.

They specifically chose non-profit because it allows them to remain profit driven, and continue to run the company as they have. The non-profit is the main shareholder now, and required by law to act in the interest of its founding principles. They basically did this for PR, because now, working in their customers' best interests is mandatory, and they are protected against hostile takeovers

A PR disaster: Microsoft has lost trust with its users, and Windows Recall is the straw that broke the camel's back ( www.windowscentral.com )

It's a nightmare scenario for Microsoft. The headlining feature of its new Copilot+ PC initiative, which is supposed to drive millions of PC sales over the next couple of years, is under significant fire for being what many say is a major breach of privacy and security on Windows. That feature in question is Windows Recall, a...

How to spot autism in High Masking Autistic Women - What’s behind the mask? -- Autism from the Inside ( youtu.be )

I think that this video has helped me develop some insight on how to spot high-masking autism, not just among women. I found a lot of the material covered in the video relatable even though I am male. Maybe that has something to do with our elevated rejection of established gender roles as a whole. Regardless, I like how...

I had an NPC that was a priest of the goddess of luck, and collected tythe by playing Liars' Dice in taverns. Our barbarian lost like all of his gold to him lol

He didn't survive long, but the party being cursed by the goddess of luck was even more fun

If you've done the Final Fantasy marathon did you include FF XI? Was it worth it?

I've been playing through all the numbered games and its been great. I could write an essay or two on any of them. In general I'm only including base games and no expansions or DLC so it wouldn't be a huge undertaking to beat 11, but I'm trying to see if it's worth it from others who have done the marathon....

Google's call-scanning AI could dial up censorship by default, privacy experts warn ( techcrunch.com )

They...

Animals can't be evil. They're amoral. They don't philosophize, they don't feel guilt; they don't comprehend life in the same way that we do. Both cruelty and mercy are human constructs. All animals can do is try to guarantee survival for themselves and their offspring. They've all evolved into a specific niche, and these behaviors you deride are just instincts that have successfully ensured the survival of their ancestors, and so were passed on. If you can't handle the idea that animals in general sometimes kill to survive, get a plant

Infynis ,
@Infynis@midwest.social avatar

They can do those things because they've been beneficial. Cats domesticated themselves because living with humans makes them safer. Their meows are cute, because that makes us want to protect them. They are absolutely capable of love, but they're still animals

Infynis ,
@Infynis@midwest.social avatar

You're right in this, and your other comment, but if OP isn't ready for "sometimes animals eat each other in nature," I don't think they're ready for the complexities of what it means to be human, and the fact that we are also animals, but have some unique behaviors

The way they see it, their best interests don't involve those of the game studio. Buying a studio does two things. It gives them a new business to latch onto and suck all the money out of quickly, and it eliminates competition in the gaming industry. Killing the studio still meets both of those goals. And then they just move onto the next one.

I'm upvoting this, not because I agree with it, but because it is relevant for this community. Like it or not (and I certainly don't), the Catholic Church has massive global power. Knowing where they stand on this issue is important, especially since this Pope, seemingly, has been trying to appear more progressive.
