In the original comic, it certainly takes longer to figure "would what?"

The original has "monster fucker" on the person, so it's a bit easier to deduce, "would fuck"

I miss the times when ads were just annoying gifs on the left or right side of a web page. Then they evolved, abusing javascript, to become pop ups that hid the URL bar and opened 3 dozen different pop ups while you didn't close the mother popup. Then they started clickjacking: that close ad button? Just opens another ad. Ad infinitum.

Now, effectively editing the video to add an ad somewhere instead of serving it as a side file. The advertising industry as a whole feels like the absolute worst villains at a personal level, because they want to target you individually.

Several countries prohibit any fictional depictions of child porn, whether drawn, written or otherwise. Wikipedia has an interesting list on that - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legality_of_child_pornography

Tiktok and Instagram are the main culprits, they'll shadowban, or outright delist, any content that uses no-no words. Sex, rape, assault, drugs, die, suicide, it's a rather big list

ICastFist ,

It has to somehow know what a naked minor looks like.

Not necessarily

You need to feed it CSAM

You don't. You just need lists of other things, properly tagged. If you feed an AI a bunch of clothed adults and a bunch of naked adults, it will, in theory, "understand" the difference between being clothed and naked and create any of its clothed adults, naked.

With that initial set above, you feed it a bunch of clothed children. When you ask for a naked child, it will either produce a child head with naked adult body, or a "weird" naked child. It "understands" that adult and child are different things, that clothed and naked are different things, and tries to infer what "naked child" looks like from what it "knows".

So is it right to be using images of real children to train these AI?

This is the real question and one I don't know the answer to, because it will boil down to consent to being part of a training model, whether your own as an adult, or a child's parent, much like how it works for stock photos and videos.

"I consent to having my likeness used for AI training models, except for any use that involves NSFW content" - Fair enough. Good luck enforcing that.

I feel like what I used to be back in 2006-2010, mr. family pirate, although most of my family is glad to pay for one or two services, mostly Amazon prime, which is one of the cheapest. I let my Netflix account cancel from lack of pay some 6 months ago, nobody called me yet.

Earning money in BRL and lots of stuff having a base price in dollars doesn't help us much either.

What sites do you visit that you need one?

A good portion of the news sites I read. If I divide the total area that goes for text and ads, it's around 35-65. Then there's taboola ads that show at the bottom, before the related articles. uBlock also stops the majority of stupid "WAIT, SIGN UP FOR OUR NEWSLETTER" modal that shows up as soon as the mouse exits the window

Any shopping sites is chock full of trackers and external ads, too. Lemme browse shit in peace.

Your loss, buddy. Olives taste great and go great on several foods, like pizza, rice, spaghetti, tacos, salad.

Weirdly enough, I didn't like them back when I was small, like up to 10yo or so.

4 months durability for an $800 phone!

My old $200 Motorola G9 Power phone lasted almost 4 years with only very minor scratches. Obviously in that period I have dropped it a few times getting out of the car, where the phone sometimes work itself out of my pant pocket while I drive, and then it slips out when I get out of the car. But no problem on my previous phones,...

I wonder why glass back is so popular (...) How is glass back not a design flaw?

Because Steve Jobs. Seriously, many stupid "but it's pretty", as well as several anti consumer decisions (hard to repair, glued parts), can be traced back to Apple and Steve Jobs. Couple that with every fucking manufacturer wanting to emulate Apple, especially Chinese ones, and everything in the smartphone world makes sense.

In other countries, where motorcycles are common, you'd see a good portion of them zig-zagging past the mostly stopped cars. While carry capacity is severely limited, compared to a car, it's still better than nothing.

Now, people without any means of transportation are pretty much fucked, because to evacuate, you need time to pack some of your shit and some way to transport it with you. Depending on the event, you'd have to choose between GTFO ASAP or packing the most you can. Even if a government provided buses for people without cars, how long would it take for everyone to finish packing their stuff inside and getting in before it's too late?

If they want the job done, he's not taking a 747

ICastFist ,
@ICastFist@programming.dev avatar

Ok, any info on how that's being done? It sure sounds like Wiseguy figured how to compile the code that was meant for the specific VR4300 (RISC) N64's CPU for typical x86-64 architecture

ICastFist ,
@ICastFist@programming.dev avatar

If he's compiling from windows to windows, target OS shouldn't be a problem. Also, I just had to go one extra click to read Mr-Wiseguy's github 😅

He could also, in theory, use Cosmopolitan to generate an APE (Actually Portable Executable) that will run on linux, bsd, windows and mac. I had to find a video where Justine talks about it to understand how and why it works: it's basically a trick to rewrite the header of the executable, with the real magic being an "optional shebang" that lets both Windows and *Nix run the first bytes.

ICastFist ,
@ICastFist@programming.dev avatar

She starts explaining APE at around 14:30. The executable is a "Windows MZ executable" that runs everywhere else, including off BIOS. Before that, she shows her redbean http server, which uses this tech.

Not being able to make satirical comments about any game-related material would mean nobody could say something like, "Controlling Iron Man feels like fighting Jarvis for control of the suit", or "Storm is as effective as a light breeze"

ICastFist ,
@ICastFist@programming.dev avatar

Google is using artificial intelligence to summarize employee comments and questions for the forum.

Well, isn't that a good start?

Anyway, the TLDR "answer" from CFO Porat is "We were spending too much", while Pichai's answer is "We hired too much people". Way to dodge the question, assholes.

Alphabet’s full-time headcount climbed to over 190,000 at the end of 2022, up almost 22% from a year earlier and 40% higher than at the close of 2020.

So they had around 135k employees in 2020. Why the fuck did you overhire, then? Just to lay off and show off to investors as someone who increased profits in the most asinine way?

Pichai then joked that leadership should hold a “Finance 101” Ted Talk for employees.

Yeah, nevermind me, Sundar Pichai, earning way more money year after year while you're all begging for raises, it's just finances, you guys!

How do you like to approach writing about games?

I've noticed there are some folks writing at length here on their experiences playing games, so this felt like a good place to ask. Do you take notes as you play, and/or after each session, then write out full thoughts upon completing a game?

Or are your reflections compiled only after finishing a game, no notes?

I've dabbled with different approaches, and haven't really settled on a consistent process personally.

@patientgamers

ICastFist ,
@ICastFist@programming.dev avatar

I personally like to write some general things I end up enjoying about a game, while I'm playing (or during pauses), mostly because I plan on making a YT channel, but also because I like to leave useful reviews on GOG and Steam. The thing about making notes during early on is that you can check them later and see if anything overstayed its welcome. It's also great to remember story details, if they're relevant

The good thing about simply writing down, even generic notes like "good music" and "controls really well" can help create that memory path to the actual experience. You don't need to be a "critic" to understand when something is great, good, bad or "just there", but it can take some skill to write in a way that makes sense to other people, so writing about the games you've been playing is a good way to train that!
