Gormadt , to ADHD in Does it make sense to get an ADHD diagnosis if I already have an ASD diagnosis?
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Getting the diagnosis could open up treatment options for ADHD that could make dealing with other aspects of life easier overall

It was a very long day that started with a nice easy plan that quickly turned into "Which POS part is preventing this thing from working"

Fun fact it was the motherboard. Though it wasn't a consistent issue sometimes it was RAM failing, sometimes it was pcie not working, sometimes it was networking not working, etc. After swapping the motherboard everything worked beautifully.

Yes we tried reseating the CPU, yes we checked for bent pins, yes we made sure the cables were secure. Something was fucky with the motherboard.

I've used mine for a lot of stuff really

Weaken adhesive for opening a cell phone (like your picture)

Revive a Nexus 5X long enough to patch it and transfer the data off of it (a really frustrating process BTW)

Heat treat resin prints (place print in box, set box on bed, set bed to 80C, come back in an hour, turn bed off, wait for it to hit ambient, remove box) this process is great for hollowed prints as not only will it cause and trapped alcohol to evaporate out but it will further cure the part and increase the durability of the part as well (CNC Kitchen has a great vid on it)

This year I actually found a combination of allergy meds that works for me (yes combination, 1 just doesn't do it for me)

It's straight up bliss not having to wear a face mask for a couple months just to not die

Edit: Yes I consulted my doctor before doing multiple at a time. In fact the 2 I'm taking right now (Allegra and Flonase) were the 2 they recommended I try together.

@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

It's gotten a lot better over the years

When I first tried it (back in 2010) it was pretty rough all around but after trying it again recently due to the whole TPM requirement for Windows 11 I've found it to be really straight forward

Linux Mint is really user friendly and is what I've even put on my grandma's pc

I got an extension in my Firefox that does the same, I'm going to have to do that to my YouTube app as well

Gormadt , to Selfhosted in Have you ever bough an external hardrive only to take the disk out of it?
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I've shucked a few drives in the past but when there was a big sale on hard drives awhile back I finished decking my NAS out with 8TB drives that weren't shucked as they came out to be cheaper than the ones in enclosures at the time.

The main downside is warranty really and some of the drives from enclosures need to have the power blocked on one of the pins to work (can't remember which sorry) due to the type of drive they are.

Gormadt , to Chat in how's your week going, Beehaw
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Pretty great

Finally upgraded my resin printer to having a flex bed and my only regret is not doing it sooner

I also finished upgrading my printing enclosures to using 8in ducting for ventilation. This combined with the 8in fan I'm using puts the ventilation at cycling the entire air contents of my room every 2 minutes at the highest setting or once every 4 minutes at the fan setting I use.

To do the upgrade required me to print a 8in duct splitter because buying one is prohibitively expensive.

What the adapter looks like (it's a gif)

I started the migration of my NAS to a new system but that's going to finish (hopefully) by Friday. The data has been duplicated I just have to wait a bit as a piece of software I need to install on one of the VMs has its key locked until Friday (can't be activated on a new system) and that piece of software is currently installed on the system that will become my new NAS.

Edit: rendered the clip at a lower res

Edit2: Hopefully the NAS move will be done by next Friday. Schedule got complicated again. Oh well it'll still work for now.

It sometimes happens for me as well

Usually I can get to the vid if I go to the channel and try again. Or trying again a little while later.

It's fuckin annoying when it trips

I wouldn't say a drinking glass is a device, a simple tool yes but not a device.

Gormadt , to memes in If a handheld device cannot withstand being dropped, it’s planned obsolescence
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

If the parts that break are either unavailable or incredibly difficult to replace then I agree. (Held in by glue I'm looking at you ya bastard)

But just because it breaks doesn't mean it's planned obsolescence.

Where I work in the freight industry we have little handhelds we're supposed to use that get dropped all the time. Occasionally the screens break or the cameras break. Both of them are held in by screws and are swappable in that event.

Fairphone is a device I'd love to get as they are very easily fixable but they still break when dropped. The parts are readily available for purchase as well. It's just not easy if you're outside of the EU.
