I'm pretty sure high fructose corn syrup is banned here and when my wife from the US moved in with me she kept complaining how things don't taste as sweet until she got used to it.

FluffyPotato ,

They have spray painted those HQs as well, the news just doesn't cover it much. So far the only way to raise awerness has been to do stuff like this. Also they intentionally haven't damaged anything historic so this works with no issue, they know what they are doing.

FluffyPotato ,

In this case it's actually dyed corn starch so this would literally wash off from the first rain. And yea, this actually gets attention, when they spray painted car dealerships of some of the heaviest polluters, protested oil companies and when a guy set himself on fire to protest climate change it gets almost no coverage.

FluffyPotato ,

This has been the most effective form of climate protest by far. When they block oil terminals or spray paint car dealerships no one will cover it making the protest pretty much useless, like a guy set himself on fire to protest climate change and that was barely covered. The stuff they do doesn't actually cause any damage but the media actually covers it because they can spin it as rage bait against the protestors but at least it gets coverage.

FluffyPotato ,

When they block oil terminals, spray paint car dealerships of the heaviest polluters or set themselves on fire the news doesnt cover it so no one will even know, while this actually works.

FluffyPotato ,

It spreads awerness, no other climate protest has even managed that. Some people obviously fall for the news rage bait but if even 1% of people gain any awerness of climate change it will have been the most effective form of climate protests by far purely on what reach it has had.

The UK also has a weird hatred of trans people, I'd rather not get my opinions from there. Also the UK has been passing police state shit long before this.

FluffyPotato ,

I'm sure that's why it's also known as terf island.

FluffyPotato , (edited )

If you wanna measure your country against those that outright kills trans people then sure, there are worse ones but in Europe, most North America and most of Asia the UK is one of the worst places to be trans. Also both of your relevant politician parties have the same policy there.

FluffyPotato ,

The Labor party runs the same anti trans stuff as the Tories.

FluffyPotato ,

I'm sure you have some black friends too

FluffyPotato ,

The UK has become completely irrelevant on the global stage be grateful I capitalised the names. Like your economy is being out paced by fucking Poland, shame is the proper response there, not national pride.

FluffyPotato ,

Yes, I said literally every person in the UK wants to kill every trans person. That's definitely what I said.

Obviously sarcasm but I feel like I need to mention it.

FluffyPotato ,

If dyed cornstarch could destroy anything on the stonehenge then it already would have been. You know it's outside, right?

FluffyPotato ,

Are you? Something just left outside for a long ass time will take more damage than even a spray of lead paint can do. And this is just corn starch, not even paint.

FluffyPotato ,

Nice try, here in Estonia we hate Russians as much as the French hate anyone not French.

Like if you wanna defend your failing country that has a two party system worse than the US go for it but at least try facts instead of national pride, it doesn't work if your country is being out paced by eastern Europe.

FluffyPotato ,

How about check the source of the quotes: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cw44mdee0zzo

The reporter first on the scene was concerned. The archaeologist was worried about the lichen growing on the stones, not the stones.

FluffyPotato ,

My absolute favourite is definitely The Ancient Magus' Bride but close second and third would be Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke.

FluffyPotato ,

Murder is wrong and all but I'm perfectly fine with someone shooting someone as bad as Hitler. Corporations do financial and environmental crime on a daily basis, someone causing financial loss for them provokes no sympathy from me.

FluffyPotato ,

Do you mean ancaps? Because I'm pretty sure most libertarian would be for universal healthcare. I have heard Americans use libertarian for ancap which are pretty opposing ideologies, I'm not sure what's up with that.

FluffyPotato ,

Google has been unusable in English for at least 2 years now. Searching in Estonian makes Google behave like it did when it was still good. I wonder how long that's going to last.

iPad Pro with M4 chip boasts impressive performance jump compared to just-released M3 MacBook Air ( 9to5mac.com )

On raw performance might, the M4 really does live up to Apple’s promises, should deliver. Single core is up about 20% compared to all M3 chips and more than 40% compared to M2. The generational computational leap from the previous M2 iPad Pro is at least a 42% jump on single-core and multi-core.

FluffyPotato ,

I don't use apple's stuff but alternatives to X86 could be the future. The one thing they need is compatibility with X86 software otherwise mass adoption is heavily crippled. It doesn't matter as much for Apple's stuff since their whole ecosystem is under strict control but for general purpose consumer hardware that compatibility is required first.

FluffyPotato ,

Yea, obviously, that's the case for most people. A lot of people for who a chromebook would be enough would not be effected, yea but for example software that isn't getting new updates and like all gaming would just not work on other architectures currently.

FluffyPotato ,

That heavily depends on what the previous machine was. Like factorio runs on my laptop without taxing the system much more than just idling and on my desktop I can't even tell it's running based on performance monitoring. So yea, I'm not sure factorio is a good indicator.

FluffyPotato ,

I'm pretty sure the old AMD APUs from the Bulldozer era can run factorio and that's like a decade old.

Like sure, it's some metric but I'm pretty sure any computer produced currently can run factorio.

FluffyPotato ,

I don't doubt it, Apple has never had good gaming performance. But a non apple laptop in the same price range with X86 aimed at gaming can run it a lot better.

FluffyPotato ,

Is Sony saying piracy is justified by making it not possible to buy this game? I guess if I have to.

FluffyPotato ,

If your only option to play a game is moving to a different country then I'd say it's the most justifiable. If you only have a PlayStation piracy won't really help you play PC or XBox games though so I don't see how that would help.

FluffyPotato ,

I'm sorry you misunderstood what I said. I was saying that Sony is encouraging piracy by making it impossible to play their games legaly in some regions, including mine.

Personally I don't think piracy is wrong with the exception of indie devs. If you think you are fighting corporations by pirating then yea, that's dumb but I haven't heard that stance yet.

FluffyPotato ,

It already is, finding a parking spot and then walking through a parking lot is a lot less convenient than walking from the tram stop to the store and it's roughly the same distance. I sold my car after moving to the city because public transit is so much more convenient.

Russia threatens Britain with retaliation if involvement in Ukraine war deepens ( www.pbs.org )

Russia on Monday threatened to strike British military facilities and said it would hold drills simulating the use of battlefield nuclear weapons amid sharply rising tensions over comments by senior Western officials about possibly deeper involvement in the war in Ukraine....

FluffyPotato ,

The UK hasn't been a major power in like at least 2 decades. If you mean NATO then Russia isn't really a major power in comparison to NATO. Not that it's important, Russia isn't stupid enough to pick a fight with NATO.

FluffyPotato ,

How dangerous a bear is is pretty much irrelevant to the whole discourse but I want to talk about bears.

Black bears are absolute cowards and aren't that dangerous unless you are an idiot

Brown bears will fuck you up if you threaten it or if it has cubs but will in most cases not attack.

Polar bears will kill you because they are bored.

My country has the highest amount of bear per person but we only have brown bears and most people have encountered a bear in the forest, it's not as scary as the idea of getting roofied and rapes. Also getting attacked by a bear is more unlikely even here than getting roofied and raped. You don't have to worried about a bear attack while you do need to guard your drink.

FluffyPotato ,

This is from January, at this point they must be pretty prepared.

FluffyPotato ,

Eastern Europe would be a yes. I know Germany is super anal about copyright but dunno about the rest of the EU.

FluffyPotato ,

It actually does, it's something people get their accounts banned over.

FluffyPotato ,

The last time they showed any interest outside of Russia they got invaded by Russia so yea.

FluffyPotato ,

He's not wrong but also I believe there's a saying in English about stones and glass houses.

FluffyPotato ,

I was in my early 20s when the Soviet occupation collapsed here, the victims here were everyone not high up in the party.

Sure, capitalism fucking sucks but pretending the USSR was anything other than just bourgeoisie rule is delusional. The oligarchs were just called the communist party then.

FluffyPotato ,

The USSR had a minimum sentence of 5 years of forced labor for being gay. Being gay is also apparently wrongthink.

FluffyPotato ,

If he had citizenship in a EU country he would be safe. EU countries don't extradite EU citizens to the US. It would be a whole can of political worms to not extradite a US citizen to the US.

FluffyPotato ,

Yea, I tried to use AI for my work, it seems to have zero clue about the software I asked about but it pretends it does. I think I'm safe.

FluffyPotato ,

I haven't encountered Americans getting mad over that but what I have encountered is them thinking everything involves the US, especially lately. For example people claiming the Ukraine - Russia war is a proxy war between the US and Russia instead or that NATO = US. Like chill, your country is not relevant to everything in the world.
