I'm currently using Mission Center, which is also really good. One of these should replace GNOME's system monitor tho because it honestly kind of sucks.
I'm Gen Z and I still know all this stuff because that's just what I'm interested in. I don't think it's a huge issue that those things were made simpler for the average person and that they don't know how it works. It's not like you can or need to know everything.
1337 is fine for most stuff, I think. Private trackers start to make sense when you want to automate downloading shows and movies but if you just wanna pirate some game, you'll probably find it on 1337 with a ton of seeders anyways.
I managed to convince my brother and a friend of mine to vote for them. This is really disappointing. Over half the votes in Germany were for right-wing parties this time, over 16% were for the right-wing-extremist party AFD. Germany really wants history to repeat itself ig.
Been setting up a Yunohost sever and really been enjoying the process/experience . The one snag I’ve had is setting up a personal Lemmy sever and the Yunohost fourms seem to be dated. Just wondering if someone might know the best place to look for solutions. Thank you, and have a good day.
What I'm using is Text Generation WebUI with an 11B GGUF model from Huggingface. I offloaded all layers to the GPU, which uses about 9GB of VRAM. With GGUF models, you can choose how many layers to offload to the GPU, so it uses less VRAM. Layers that aren't offloaded use system RAM and the CPU, which will be slower.
Some government should finally grow the balls to reform copyright, it's insane that basically the whole world uses this broken system that, among other things, makes archiving illegal
15 games for $70 are enough to save $1000, which is definitely enough for a good gaming PC. After buying a PS5 and the cheapest PS Plus subscription, paid yearly (cause that's the cheapest option per month) for a little more than 8 years, you're also at $1000. With the most expensive PS Plus option it would only take a little more than 4 years.

I really love GNOME but the developers keep doing shit like this and I don't get why. Their reasoning for why they won't allow custom accent colors and only predefined ones was also stupid and then they just said that if people keep asking for custom colors, they won't implement it at all.
The reasoning for only allowing predefined colors was that, apparently, developers need to be able to test against every color and that Android's Material You is a total mess. I disagree with both of that, Material You seems to be working quite fine (I've also made apps myself) and I don't get what developers would need to test with accent colors. I couldn't voice my opinion tho cause then the whole thing would've been canned.
AFAICT, mastodon's decisions, which are arguably problematic (on which see: https://lemmy.ml/post/14973403) are literally trickling down to other platforms and infecting how they federate with each other as they dance around mastodon's quirks in different ways.
It seems like masto is ruining "the standard" with its gravity.
Isn't there a group of people now that's working to improve the ActivityPub spec and actually define things so applications don't implement it differently?
That's not what I meant. I read at some point that there's a group of people trying to build a wiki or something, so others, who want to make fediverse software, can look up best-practices and the like. They also wanted to make demo software to test the federation against, so Mastodon doesn't have to be used for that.
That's kind of what I meant too, if there's a standardised and correct way to implement things, that's how projects should implement it instead of trying to do it the "Mastodon" way

That's just personal preference tho. I don't personally like it either but that's part of the reason I use GNOME, I think that looks absolutely great. Great thing about Linux is that you don't have to use KDE Plasma or GNOME or whatever other DE, you can choose what you like the most.
