Gay people, please keep being who you are. While I was never naturally inclined to fear or hate the LGBTQ+ crowd, getting to know many of them as coworkers and friends helped me to truly understand them. And unlike people who would post hate speech on social media to politicize their own wedding I have never met LGBTQ+ people that cared I was white, male, or straight.

Well put. Also, it's not like there's 1 single sky zeppelin that you won't see again for weeks. Admittedly, I'm a bad about deadlines and preparing. I traveled for work for years and missed several flights. Not fun, but as long as your actual schedule isn't too tight, it's usually no big deal. I talk to the airline, they put me on another flight later, I wait around a bit or go home and come back for the alternative flight.

At one point I lived like 15 minutes from a smaller airport. I could literally get there 30 minutes before departure if I overslept or something and usually made it through the quick security and onto my flight...

In my experience "call out" was more common for a shift-style job at a place with many low-level, younger employees. Think fast-food, retail, etc. Maybe had to do with the perception that another employee is just "slotted in" to replace the shift? Regardless, these same people are now getting older and the term has spread to other types of jobs...
