You know, Custom Robo is awesome. I'll gladly sit down, play it and lament the fact there wasn't a new once since the DS game. That's way better than watching some random stuff on Netflix.

De_Narm ,

Man, I'm tired of that AI slob. Just look at that ear. Like, it's cool we could develop that stuff, but now it just drowns out actual art.

De_Narm ,

I can get behind the logic of more screen time probably meaning less physical activity. But someone needs to explain to me how eating less would ever lead to weight gain. Especially when your typical breakfast junk is just as unhealthy as snacking could ever be.

De_Narm ,

It seems like only missing teeth will regrow (at least in the tested animals), however, that should include both wisdom teeth or otherwise intentionally missing ones.

De_Narm ,

That's not actually all that surprising. The far-right, at least in Germany, is far more prominent on social media. It sucks but I don't think we can prevent that. We have a lot of complex problems but social media favors short answers instead of complex ones. A lot of younger people simply lack the critical thinking to see these simple answers for what they are - bullshit. And I can't blame them, they have been exposed to this bullshit for most of their lives.

De_Narm ,

US 'democracy' ist just fundamentally broken. All my life I've heard shit that dates back to Reagan, people always complain about it, yet neither party ever cared to fix things he broke. You guys really need more parties, but of course neither party is willing to change the system enough to make that viable since they'd give up power. That alone should call for mass protests.

Turkey simply relabels Russian oil products and exports them to Europe, research indicates ( www.intellinews.com )

More evidence that Turkey simply relabels Russian oil products and re-exports them to Europe as Turkish emerges from a new study by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) and the Centre for the Study of Democracy (CSD)....

De_Narm ,

I'm surprised you needed to research that. How else would Turkey magically increase their oil exports that much? I assume people simply didn't care. They had their symbolic ban and didn't need to decrease their oil consumption.

Give me that amount of money and power, combined with almost no repercussion for being a selfish prick to keep that life style, and I too may not be the upstanding citizen I like to think of myself.

I honestly think we would be a lot better off if decisions where made by random citizens - kind of like jury duty, instead of professional politicians.

De_Narm ,

Trust me, most German public toilets are disgusting. Railway station toilets aren't even free and a lot of them suck. The ones within a train? Even more disgusting. (If you're lucky enough to find one that's not closed for repair anyway.)

De_Narm ,

Hey, that's Gina Rinehart, Executive Chairwoman of Hancock Prospecting! She recently sent me a mail about giving me ~$2.000.000, I should finally get back to her on that.

De_Narm ,

I'm gonna be honest, I love that design. That comparison just makes it better, those games had a big part in my childhood.

Dozens of stars show signs of hosting advanced alien civilisations ( www.newscientist.com )

Two surveys of millions of stars in our galaxy have revealed mysterious spikes in infrared heat coming from dozens of them. Astronomers say this could be evidence for alien civilisations harnessing energy from their stars by using a vast construction known as a Dyson sphere – although they can’t fully rule out more mundane...

De_Narm ,

I'm not saying it can't be a dyson sphere, but I feel like that's a pretty click-baity explanation. Usually the simplest anwser is the most likely one and that's never a dyson sphere.

De_Narm ,

I mean today's "Ascension Day" in America. It's because Piccolo ascended the throne of Earth.

De_Narm , (edited )

That's why I prefer smaller communities. Like, not lemmy-small, I mean actual small. 10-15 people. Haven't seen any bots in those.

De_Narm ,

Would love to play it, but the first one caused a major tendonitis flare up - I shouldn't risk it. The Poseidon dash boon was just too good, but that always meant a full 30 minute run of just hammering one button.

De_Narm ,

Thanks for checking! I'll keep an eye on it and may give it a try with the option enabled. I honestly never even checked whether or not Hades I has something like this, maybe I should do that do - I'm still a bit bothered I had to stop after only 4 successful runs.

De_Narm ,

Gotta have more respect for the living than the dead. They are the ones its still anything worth to.

De_Narm ,

Why are there AI boxes popping up everywhere? They are useless. How many times do we need to repeat that LLMs are trained to give convincing answers but not correct ones. I've gained nothing from asking this glorified e-waste something, pulling out my phone and verifying it.

De_Narm ,

"Fairly high" is still useless (and doesn't actually quantify anything, depending on context both 1% and 99% could be 'fairly high'). As long as these models just hallucinate things, I need to double-check. Which is what I would have done without one of these things anyway.

De_Narm ,

I haven't seen much of them here, but I use other media too. E.g, not long ago there was a lot of coverage about the "Humane AI Pin", which was utter garbage and even more expensive.

De_Narm ,

1% correct is never “fairly high” wtf

It's all about context. Asking a bunch of 4 year olds questions about trigonometry, 1% of answers being correct would be fairly high. 'Fairly high' basically only means 'as high as expected' or 'higher than expected'.

Also if you want a computer that you don’t have to double check, you literally are expecting software to embody the concept of God. This is fucking stupid.

Hence, it is useless. If I cannot expect it to be more or less always correct, I can skip using it and just look stuff up myself.

De_Narm ,

Obviously the only contexts that would apply here are ones where you expect a correct answer.

That's the whole point, I don't expect correct answers. Neither from a 4 year old nor from a probabilistic language model.

De_Narm ,

I don't expect a correct answer because I've used these models quite a lot last year. At least half the answers were hallucinated. And it's still a common complaint about this product as well if you look at actual reviews (e.g., pretty sure Marques Brownlee mentions it).

De_Narm ,

I don't necessarily disagree. You can certainly use LLMs and achieve something in less time than without it. Numerous people here are speaking about coding and while I had no success with them, it can work with more popular languages. The thing is, these people use LLMs as a tool in their process. They verify the results (or the compiler does it for them). That's not what this product is. It's a standalone device which you talk to. It's supposed to replace pulling out your phone to answer a question.

De_Narm ,

If we always kill off 99.9% and grant the remaining 0.1% who actually bounce back immunity, we'd end up creating an even worse billionaire class. Kinda like with antibiotics.

De_Narm ,

Since OP won't tell, there are a few things I came across years ago:

  • naked yoga, there used to be lots and lots of porn-but-not-porn on youtube

  • real autopsy videos - you could easily find them when looking for anatomy videos, the most memorable one being done by a german crazy-looking guy wearing a hat while doing an autopsy on stage

There are others, but they were just plain illegal.

De_Narm ,

I've only ever seen this done by Americans. They also have really car centric cities. I guess it kinda makes sense to just keep your normal shoes on to warm your feet if they can't get dirty since you mostly only walk indoors.

De_Narm ,

I'd be just as happy with one trillion as I'd be with one billion.

I'd be a lot happier with one million than I'd be with one thousand.

I'd say the cap for happiness for me personally is somewehere between 10 and 50 million dollar. Enough to never think about money again.

De_Narm ,

As always, you guys are way too fixated on size.

De_Narm ,

I've always been amazed by how unusable the play store was. I'd actually like to browse apps sometimes, but it always was choke full of useless ads pushing the worst apps possible. I only go there once every blue moon when I exactly know what I want, download it and get out of there.
