I have no objective purpose and I like it that way

DarkGamer ,

Israel needs to go after bad actors among their ranks, and if they're unwilling I want the US to do more sanctions on them. This is unacceptable, tacit approval of such violence against children only serves Hamas.

DarkGamer ,
@DarkGamer@kbin.social avatar

There's no evidence presented in this article this was perpetrated by the Israeli government and not just some soldiers.

DarkGamer ,
@DarkGamer@kbin.social avatar

Right, that's the tacit approval I mentioned in my original comment, they need to prosecute Israeli soldiers and civilians who break the law and change that perception.

It accomplishes nothing besides pissing people off!

It denies the CCP mainline media access to our society, with which they can sow division. Arguably a lot of what's happening on campuses now is thanks to TikTok.

That they refuse to sell tells me that their investment in this company is not about profit.

My understanding is that the original devs of Lemmy are tankies, so the culture they fostered was very anti-western values.

If you opposed genocide you'd support Israel, who is fighting an explicitly genocidal opponent that did in fact commit acts of genocide against israel, as per international law.

Whine is a waste of breath

DarkGamer ,

You should! I think you'd enjoy it. It's really incredible tasting, syrupy and sweet, like concentrated grape juice, has a unique flavor. Get a decent one, I ordered the cheap stuff a long time ago and it was meh. Expect to pay a bit because since the water content is removed as ice it only yields a tiny fraction of what a normal wine harvest would, and it's harder to harvest because the grapes have to be picked at subfreezing temps. So, the bottles are small. If you want to go in on a 375ml bottle, it's the kind of thing to enjoy out of a tiny glass after dinner shared with 1-3 friends. Cheers!

Tiny glasses; pours are more like a double shot than a full glass of wine, and you're only having a little like a digestif.

According to this article, IDF claims the dead were buried there by Palestinians, the mass grave was checked by IDF for hostages' remains, then re-buried, and IDF does not tend to Palestinian remains in Gaza:

The Israel Defense Forces on Tuesday rejected Hamas’s allegation as “baseless.”
It said forces searching for Israeli hostages had examined bodies previously buried by Palestinians near Nasser Hospital and had returned the bodies to where they were buried after they were examined.
It has been documented that Palestinians buried their dead at the hospital grounds both before and while Israeli troops operated in the area.
The location of that burial site was geo-located by experts to the same location where Hamas officials claimed to have discovered the new mass grave.
Generally, the IDF does not tend to the bodies of slain Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. ...
The United Nations rights office claimed that some of the bodies were “found with their hands tied and stripped of their clothes.”
The IDF, in its response, said that during its operation in the area of Nasser Hospital in recent months, troops examined corpses that had been buried by Palestinians on the medical center’s grounds, “as part of an effort to locate hostages.”
The military said it operated in a “targeted manner,” only where it had intelligence that Israeli hostages may have been buried.

Curious if there is anything to this or if it is just another false allegation.

@DarkGamer@kbin.social avatar

Hamas is known for torturing Palestinians, especially suspected collaborators, this was what made the green prince defect.

Edit: Added citation for skeptics like NoneOfUrBusiness

DarkGamer ,
@DarkGamer@kbin.social avatar

Even if you don't want to hear it, nothing I wrote was inaccurate.

Sources I've read said some of the bodies were reported as bound, not all 400. Many may just be victims of war/ collateral damage/ normal hospital deaths.

I'd put money on occupation until a Gazan puppet government is installed, with annexation being explored further if that doesn't go well.

For those who don't know who Ben-Gvir is, this guy is pretty terrible, (archival link here,) probably the worst in Netanyahu's administration. He calls for war crimes, he has framed pictures of Jewish terrorists on his wall, his politics could accurately be described as Judeofascism. He's Israel's National Security Minister which means he oversees Israel's police and prisons, it would be best if he wasn't involved in government at all but at least he's not waging this war.

DarkGamer ,
@DarkGamer@kbin.social avatar

More accurately, he's not in charge of the IDF. There are accusations that he instructed police to turn a blind eye to settler violence, which would be very on-brand for him. I think it would be better for everyone, especially Israel, if this guy wasn't representing them.

DarkGamer ,

Israel is a good international neighbor. Iran funds terrorist groups all over the world.

DarkGamer ,
@DarkGamer@kbin.social avatar

It's pretty disgusting to see you cheer for Islamic terrorist groups who would throw you off buildings. Iran was responsible for October 7th, Hamas is their proxy.

DarkGamer ,
@DarkGamer@kbin.social avatar

Israel's violence is against those who attack them and intend to do them harm. Self-Defense.

DarkGamer ,
@DarkGamer@kbin.social avatar

Israel is only a threat to those who attack it, and Palestinian Arab nationalists have been trying to murder Jews for the last hundred years for merely existing in the Levant and legally buying land there. Were it not for this, a one-state solution would have been workable, borders would have never been drawn by the UN, and Israel never would have formed as it did, in mutual self-defense.

No doubt many atrocities occurred during the nakba, there were Jewish terrorist groups who drove out peaceful villages, while this does not justify them, let us not forget they were formed in response to slaughters of Jews. Violence causes violence. Some people will do terrible things for safety. Many of the Arabs who left did so in order to fight against Israel. Those who stayed and were not driven out are now faring relatively well. Better than many of their Arab neighbors under their own leadership.

I believe Israel should exist right where it does because it's the only home the people who live there know. I guess that means I am a Zionist because I oppose genocide via destruction of Israel and think it's a bad idea to let the people who have been trying to murder them for 100 years elect their leaders.

Being a good neighbor does not mean you don't defend yourself when attacked, nor does it mean yielding to the United States necessarily. In this context, it means that unlike Iran, Israel isn't a threat to worldwide peace and stability, does not represent islamist conquest, does not fund terror groups worldwide and is not trying to undo the enlightenment. Israel is a modern Western country that just wants safety for its people. Leave them alone and they will leave you alone.

Collateral damage happens in war, and those figures are from Hamas and are not credible. Recent analysis of them indicates they are probably doctored.

Genocide requires an intent to destroy, and Israel has been clear they intend to destroy Hamas not Palestine/ Palestinians. Collateral damage is not genocide.

It's unsurprising that there is public animosity against Palestinians, given the violence they have been inflicting upon Israel for the last century. It's terrible that some Israelis might call them rats and other dehumanizing names, but using that to vilify Israel as a whole seems inappropriate, I'm sure Palestinians also dehumanize Israelis but that's not really relevant to this discussion or a valid cause for national violence.

Some right-wing politicians in Israel have said some pretty horrible things, even called for war crimes, but they do not represent Israel as a whole, nor are they directing the war. Meanwhile, Hamas has been pretty unambiguously calling for genocide against Israel and Jews even in their own charter. October 7th itself was an act of genocide. I support Israel because I oppose genocide.

Sometimes people get things wrong in the fog of war, this is not unique to Israel, and Hamas has been doing the same thing, like when they attacked their own hospital with a rocket and blamed Israel for it. They operate out of otherwise protected buildings, then blame Israel when they are treated like military assets they are being used as. They intentionally murder, torture, rape, and kidnap civilians. Israel isn't infallible and they go to Great lengths to legally justify every attack and minimize civilian casualties.

Who's the terrorist here? Hamas. Obviously.

DarkGamer ,
@DarkGamer@kbin.social avatar

Look at queermunist's comment history, every time I see them in the comment section, they are simping for some islamist violent group known for murdering LGBT people. When it wasn't Iran it was Hamas.

DarkGamer ,
@DarkGamer@kbin.social avatar

Why would we stop them from attacking the hospitals that Hamas is using as bases? We're not going to bind the hands of our allies when they are defending themselves.

@DarkGamer@kbin.social avatar

Freeing humans from toil is a good idea, just like the industrial revolution was. We just need our system to adapt and change with this new reality, AGI and universal basic income means we could live in something like the society in star trek.

This guy runs Euro Med Monitor:

Abdu was the assistant director and Palestine Office Manager for Council for European Palestinian Relations,[19][20] an organisation described by The Independent as "a Belgian non-profit organisation that lobbies on behalf of the Hamas-led Gaza Government."[21] He was on the board of trustees of the International platform of NGOs working for Palestine.

Congratulations, you're spreading Hamas propaganda. There's a reason this story isn't being run anywhere credible.

U.N. report: ‘Convincing’ information Hamas raped, tortured hostages ( www.washingtonpost.com )

A team of United Nations experts tasked with gathering information on sexual violence linked to Hamas’s Oct. 7 attacks on Israel found “reasonable grounds to believe” that some victims were sexually assaulted, including rape and gang rape, according to a U.N. report released Monday....

DarkGamer ,
@DarkGamer@kbin.social avatar

It seems like the US government is predicting that the rise of AI will become a national security issue. They're right.

DarkGamer ,
@DarkGamer@kbin.social avatar

What on earth does this have to do with the patriot act?

DarkGamer ,
@DarkGamer@kbin.social avatar

As you say, they have very little leverage. What they can offer is returning the hostages and a guarantee of safety for Israel and in exchange, they can get peace and relative freedom. At this point they should probably negotiate for whatever they can get, because the alternative is complete destruction. Belligerence hasn't worked out well for them, perhaps they should try something else.

I wouldn't expect any trust and goodwill considering their stated goal is to genocide Jews and destroy Israel.

DarkGamer ,
@DarkGamer@kbin.social avatar

You think the reason for this is the guy who immolated himself? Why? He's not even mentioned in this article.

DarkGamer ,
@DarkGamer@kbin.social avatar
DarkGamer ,
@DarkGamer@kbin.social avatar

Israel didn't like the terms and they have most of the leverage, Anthony Blinken said there were a lot of "non-starters" in the offer. What exactly those were I don't think has been made public.

DarkGamer ,
@DarkGamer@kbin.social avatar

The reason there's a massive security apparatus around Palestine is not to oppress Palestinians or impose racial hierarchy, it is because they have been trying to murder Jews for the last 70+ years.

The violence against Israel is the reason for this. Hamas is a cause of the violence. They create the very situation they say they want to end.

If they want the walls to come down and the blockade to end, they need to show a commitment to peace, rather than a commitment to genocide.

DarkGamer ,
@DarkGamer@kbin.social avatar

Each blames the other, yet there are clear examples of how Israel claims Hamas broke the ceasefire there.

The fediverse is way left of reddit. There's a lot of tankies here.

The New York Times should not be considered a reliable source of journalism.

The New York Times is one of the newspapers of record for the United States. However, it's history of running stories with poor sourcing, insufficient evidence, and finding journalists with conflicts of interest undermines it's credibility when reporting on international issues and matters of foreign policy....

DarkGamer ,
@DarkGamer@kbin.social avatar

The New York times is highly credentialed and has more pulitzers than any other newspaper.
Sure, sometimes they don't get it right, but that doesn't mean they're not a damn good source for journalism.

What the fuck does this mean?

DarkGamer ,

Although that may be true, a shooting by defense forces at a chaotic scene of looting is certainly more understandable and less egregious than opening fire on innocent people orderly lining up. This article distorts the fundamental facts of what happened. It's clear they want to make Israel look as villainous as possible, objectivity be damned.
