"sticks and stones may break my bones drones..."

What do you think the Great Filter is?

The Great Filter is the idea that, in the development of life from the earliest stages of abiogenesis to reaching the highest levels of development on the Kardashev scale, there is a barrier to development that makes detectable extraterrestrial life exceedingly rare. The Great Filter is one possible resolution of the Fermi...

My suspicion is that it's abiogenesis, but it's only a suspicion that I can't have any certainty of

I dont drink alcohol myself, but isnt there some kind of drink, like the kind they mix up at bars, not sure the term for those kinds, that is just orange juice mixed with vodka? I must imagine this is intended to be similar but premade.

to be perfectly honest, Ive not had sunny d since I was in like, kindergarten, so I dont really recall what its like much beyond that its orange flavored.

I mean, raptors

CarbonIceDragon ,

Doesn't it demonstrate that the actual dinos in real life don't have to be big to be popular, because humans will simply portray them how they want to see and bring interest in the species regardless?

Would this even be necessary for automated ordering anyway? Given that every company under the sun wants you to use some app of theirs these days, including fast food companies, Im kinda surprised they dont just get rid of the speaker/microphone system, and just put a sign with a qr code in front of the drive through telling you to download and use their app to put in a drive through order

Still could see some use though, in that if they're not very combat capable anyway, driving them around potentially makes one expend ammo firing at them, and any mines they might hit would be detonated without human casualty.

It's conceivable that it could, and so it makes some sense to prepare. Even assuming it's over by then though, it still makes some sense to prop up Ukraine both militarily and economically for some time after, because seeing as the war has been mostly fought on their territory, it will be a long struggle to rebuild, during which time it may be difficult for them to afford to replace military stockpiles on their own as they'll need everything they can for rebuilding. But if their military is not also replenished, then they'd be at risk if Russia tries this again a few years later.

Now there's a name that will certainly not cause awkward confusion about what the website is for...

Ah, sounds like someone going for the herostratus approach to fame

In that it uses sunlight and large mirrors, but it should deliver more thrust, but also require some propellant. Also should be able to fire in any direction, depending on how the mirrors are able to pivot to focus on the propellant chamber.

As I understand it, "real communism" is supposed to be some kind of stateless society. As the GDR was, well, a state, it clearly did not achieve that. Nor would it ever have been likely to, as actually doing what was ideologically promised would have required those with power within that system to relinquish that power, which is incredibly rare as it conflicts with human nature.

@CarbonIceDragon@pawb.social avatar

In what sense is this semantics or bad faith? I meant this sincerely.

CarbonIceDragon ,
@CarbonIceDragon@pawb.social avatar

I think you have an unrealistic estimation of how much most people understand the topic of communism, if you think not labelling different types of communism as the same ideology is living under a rock. More than half the country doesn't even realize that socialism and communism aren't complete synonyms, and a good fraction think paradoxically that center right liberalism is somehow communist.

Basically, I think you're doing this: https://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/average_familiarity_2x.png

Furries are centered around anthropomorphic animals. Anthropomorphic means it has human traits. Humans are an animal species. Humans have human traits by definition, therefore humans are technically anthropomorphic animals, therefore all art of humans is technically a subset of furry art.

A foolish decision, this setup forces the horse to escape the board, where it can wreck havok in the real world

The moon's day length is so long that it wouldn't make any sense for any crewed mission to use it, they're going to need their own lights on an arbitrary 24 hour cycle anyway, so there's no reason not to have every future crewed mission there use the same one

Reminds me of that story of the US navy in WW2 having a ship dedicated to producing icecream for morale purposes.

I mean, the United States has, to be fair, developed a food culture that emphasizes using a lot of meat, especially over the past century or so. It's not surprising that people from an area that eats so much meat, who go vegan, are going to want to look for ways to still make dishes familiar to them

CarbonIceDragon ,
@CarbonIceDragon@pawb.social avatar

To be fair, a patty sandwich of any type (be it hamburgers, chicken sandwich, beans, or any kind of imitation meat) is going to be similarly labor intensive and time consuming if one had to make the patty and bread oneself rather than being able to just buy them. I'm sure traditional recipes for most cultures can be made similarly convenient if probably somewhat different from their original form, if demand exists for them to be premade and sold that way. There's a specialty grocery store very close to my home that specializes in Indian food, tho also has some international foods from other places too, and it's freezer section has all sorts of Indian dishes done up as tv dinners, or premade frozen samosas of various flavors one just has to fry in a pan for a few minutes, among other things.
