what? Its opt-in

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

why would you need to switch, did you read the article?

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

Shes not the new ceo, shes a temporary interim ceo while they find someone better

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

"Our initial offering"

They said in the article theyll also offer the use of self-hosted models later

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

From the post it seems like theyll ad support for self-hosted models before the feature leaves beta

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

Whether it’s a local or a cloud-based model, if you want to use AI, we think you should have the freedom to use (or not use) the tools that best suit your needs.

Ok it doesnt say it directly but you can see where i got it from

To clarify for those that might not understand that explanation, RISC is just a type of instruction set, x86 is CISC, but arm and RISC-V are RISC

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

Do you not degoogle your android?

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

Openstreetmaps data is very good, and several degoogled custom roms support android auto (/e/os comes to mind) and the paid version of osmand has android auto support, the free version of the (inferior)agic earth does too

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

You may want to try oit magic earth or organic maps, although i personally dont like them as much

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

Under 60usd for a decent used one that can do that stuff

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

I like how apple seems to understand where ai is useful and doesnt shove it everywhere, its also opt-in.

I dont like apple but their ai implementation is quite nice

Opt out? Opt in? Opt Green!

50% of consumers buy new devices due to unsupported software, while the "tsunami of " continues to rise.

can keep those devices in use and out of the landfill. Today!

Say hello to the new project ": For Sustainable Hardware".

https://eco.kde.org/blog/2024-05-29_introducing-ns4nh/

You don't need new hardware for a secure, up-to-date device; you just need the right software!

@kde

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

Just for my 2 cents, I installed kde on an ancient HP elitebook, and while it was a tad slow to boot from disk due to the hard drive, the daily usage was honestly totally fine, and way better than the windows 7 it came with.
You are right that KDE is very light compared to windows, or even in general.

Not more than a ps5?

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

You don't need a 40 series, but more importantly what country do you live in?

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

Ah OK, you could probably still find good deals on PC parts but it must be harder over there

DRM Hell

Amazon Prime, like many services, is a DRM hell. It won't go to over 480p on Firefox on Linux at my end. However, instead of a rant, I am interested in why this is happening. Say, I rented the same film from YouTube Movies(Yes, such a service exists) and the quality can toggle all the upto 1080p but the same title on Prime Video...

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

Btw you can use stremio to get the resolutions you paid for

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

You can use goodlock to make it scrollable

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

The distro recommendation is usually mint, but I'd like to know, what does your setup look like? (Monitor specs, PC specs etc)

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

Oh yeah, then if you like the look of it, Linux mint is the best option

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

Congrats, I'd recommend Linux mint. Feel free to DM me/reply to this comment if you have any questions

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

There's a lot of work going into nvidia on linux ATM, so its improving pretty fast, but Also you can get a faster amd GPU with the money you can get from selling your 2080 ti

The spoiler is broken

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

awesome! By the way they are gonna do an overhaul of the ui on popos, look up "pop_os cosmic"

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

With Firefox and unlock origin it'll remove all the cruft from websites, and you can degoogle your phone, making it more private than it was in 2014 (unless you install apps that don't respect your privacy)

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

Is it open source though?

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

Yeah I thought so ):

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

Well sometimes they use opensource stuff (like curl) in windows, so I thought maybe it was

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

Get the izzyonfdroid version of libretube though, the version on the main fdroid repo is broken

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

I'd recommend kagi or ddg like the other people, but brave search is also quite good, I like the fact it has a independent index

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

Honestly I hope they do because I refuse to use google pay and I can't use apple pay

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

I know, that's why I don't use either

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

Literally every teenager at my school uses Instagram, kids do use Instagram still

Edit: I may be stupid

Microsoft is testing Game Pass ads on the Windows 11 Settings homepage ( www.ghacks.net )

Microsoft's announcement: "We are introducing a new Game Pass recommendation card on the Settings homepage. The Game Pass recommendation card on Settings Homepage will be shown to you if you actively play games on your PC. As a reminder – the Settings homepage will be shown only on the Home and Pro editions of Windows 11 and...

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

Yeah they'll just show you ads for individual games if you have gamepass.

Also I can answer any questions you have about Linux, if you do want to switch

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

If you want I can walk you through installing/getting ready for linux, it's genuinely incredibly easy now.

There is conflicting gobbledygook online for the simple reason that people like to try and find their ideal setup

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

not a fan of brave as a company, but their ai search does that.

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

I see, you could edit the .desktop file of the firewall app to remove the word fire from its name and search terms

Blisterexe ,
@Blisterexe@lemmy.zip avatar

The reason I wrote its and not it's is that I was too lazy to correct it
