@appassionato Looks like firefighting foam. It's perhaps toxic with long term or continuous exposure... I mean they aren't gonna use CS Tear Gas on these people. It's poisonous to the nervous system... or pepper spray. It hurts. FireHosing, a la the southern US during the civil rights movement, can cause physical damage. Way back in the 1980s, when I was in college, we had a tent city on the UC Berkeley campus to protest the Apartheid regime in South Africa. Lots of parallels to what's been happening on campuses recently with the Palestinian solidarity protests, including violent police crack downs.
During this time, author Kurt Vonnegut came to speak in support of the movement, and against Apartheid.

"As the world witnessed in the case of the destruction of the highly probable victory of Jeremy Corbyn becoming British Prime Minister, these campaigns of destroying opponents of Israeli ethnic cleansing have been extremely potent and successful.

Police officers face off with pro-Palestinian students after destroying part of the encampment barricade at the campus of the University of California. The police cleared UCLA’s student encampment in a late-night operation, and arrested at least 200 pro-Palestine demonstrators
A demonstrator gestures to riot police during an opposition protest against ‘the Russian law’ in Tbilisi.
