2024 marks the 45th anniversary of sci-fi horror masterpiece Alien, which was released May 25, 1979.

The first time I saw it I was pretty young, it was on TV and censored. We actually had it recorded on a VHS from TV, which is something my family did a lot. I only saw the full uncensored version years later! 😂

Saw THE BEEKEEPER (2024) last night. I, of course, loved this movie. I will watch anything with Jason Statham (I'm not the only one as it turned out after the movie was over last night. 😆).

I also got a kick out of the movie as a medievalist. Apparently, there is a secret society of assassins called Beekeepers, who protect human civilization based on the idea that it is like a beehive.

Can you name a film that was adapted not from a novel, but from a short story?
Here's one:

The Illusionist (2006)

@franciscawrites @bookstodon El Sur/ The South by Adelaida Garcia Morales was made into a film of the same name by her then husband, Victor Erice. OK, technically it’s a novella, but at 50 pages I’ve read longer short stories. I actually started reading the novella last night, because I love the film, but finances were pulled from the movie production before the final third could be made, and I’ve always longed to find out what happened.
