If you cant handle a democratic election not going your way, maybe you dont belong in politics.

And maybe you shouldve curbed immigration instead of making it a wedge issue, and only having the far right party be for curbing it. Just a thought

Not surprised given the illegal migrants there

Amazing take. Back in the 1920's you would have looked at the rise of the NSDAP in Germany and gone "not surprised given the jews there"

You miss the keyword "illegal"

Edit: just saw your post history, lol. Won't waste any more time in you. Good luck lol

Why is so much of the internet terrible now fml

I asked chatgpt & it said this:

The internet can feel overwhelming or negative at times due to various factors like misinformation, toxicity in online communities, and the sheer volume of content. It's important to curate your online experience by choosing reliable sources and engaging in positive communities that align with your interests and values. Taking breaks from the internet or limiting exposure to certain types of content can also help maintain a healthier online experience.

I think that a better answer might have something to do with commercial interests.

Cory Doctorow can explain it to you. He coined a term for it which has now become widespread, "enshittification." And it's all about money.

does Ukraine still have those defection drones?

robocall , in ‘I am not made for war’: the men fleeing Ukraine to evade conscription
@robocall@lemmy.world avatar

All the Ukrainians that were voluntarily willing to serve and fight are either already on the field, injured, or dead.

I believe Ukraine needs foreign soldiers to finish the war, or they will have to surrender eventually. The Russians have no problem dragging this out, sending millions more of their people to die for this war.

Noodle07 , in ‘I am not made for war’: the men fleeing Ukraine to evade conscription

War is hell, can't blame them

Aurenkin , in ‘I am not made for war’: the men fleeing Ukraine to evade conscription

Such a tough and heartbreaking situation. Of course I'm pretty sure most of us would like to think we'd step up if our country was brutally attacked but I honestly have no idea what I'd do. Facing seemingly endless meat waves would be hell by itself let alone thermobaric bombs and drones.

state_electrician ,

Fuck my country. My loyalty is to my family.

ArcaneGadget ,

No fucking way. I ain't gonna' die fighting for the inflated egos, of the morons in charge of the world powers and their ass-lickers. I'd gather up my loved ones and leave in a heartbeat, if my country started forced conscription. I'm not enough of a nationalist to die "for king and fatherland", no matter how much i like this little country.

Irremarkable ,
@Irremarkable@fedia.io avatar

You don't have to be patriotic to end up stepping up. When you see the shit Russia did to the Ukrainians in the areas they annex in 2014, it's easy to see why people wouldn't want that to happen to their family, and why they'd be willing to step up.

HappycamperNZ ,

(Completely different country here, no present risk.) The unfortunate reality for me is that I have three kids who might be called up if the shit hits the fan, and I've had 30 odd years longer on this planet.

If its not me, it's my kids.

uebquauntbez , in North Korean troops will become 'cannon fodder' if they aid Russia in Ukraine, Pentagon says

Holy sh*t! So some other nations have to fight for Putins Russia as russian people won't? Right? A czar without support by own people. Last time Russia had this was with czar Nikolaus II. He was killed by some of his own. With almost all his family. Bright future! For us, not for Putin.

Aux ,

The difference between the czar and Putin is that many people in Russia are (or were, before the war) living a decently good life. But back in the days if you were not an aristocrat, you were pretty much a slave living in utterly horrible conditions. Wikipedia can give you a quick overview of 19th century - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Russia

In short: non stop wars with everyone (over 1m civilian peasants died in just 1812 alone), serfdom (literally slavery in the case of the Russian Empire) was only abolished in 1861, Russians endured SIX cholera pandemics during the century before the revolution with millions dead, there was a massive famine at the turn of the century, and lack of industrialisation meant that the economy of Russian Empire was dying. The late Russian Empire was a meat grinder, people had nothing to lose. And they knew that they will die soon anyways, either from famine, physical abuse or an illness.

tal , (edited )
@tal@lemmy.today avatar

Lemmy is not designed to provide reasonably-hardened anonymity in the sort of way that Hyphanet, I2P, or maybe Tor or something like that is.

I would not recommend using Lemmy if I were seriously concerned about government prosecution for content on it.

Lemmy's a good alternative for something like Reddit.
