Showerthoughts

my_hat_stinks , in "cool" and "hot" are both compliments

But 'cold' and 'heated' are bad. People are weird about temperature.

Would "hot blooded" be good or bad? 🤔

I guess if your temperature is 103 then it's bad, unless you're a Foreigner.

"You warm up the ice! It's the best of both worlds!"

9point6 , in Shower thoughts are wasting water.

Well I live in a rainy part of the UK, and we basically had rain all month, so longer showers are probably more likely helping avoid the reservoir flooding over here

I guess the one upside to this situation is our water isn't even metered, we just pay a flat rate every quarter

Gnugit OP ,

I live in the wettest region of south west australia nearby the historically coldest, wettest town in the state. We normally get 9 wet months a year but we're are half way through the season and so far only had 1.5 wet months.

Sure, but then there won't be any conservative judges left to let him off the hook for it.

PunnyName ,

That's fine. Batman needs to break the Joker's neck, and then turn himself in with the body in tow.

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

I'm not convinced Ubuntu is a good tool for many jobs.

SkyNTP ,

To be fair, most tools are pretty bad at all other jobs besides the one it was made for. Same goes for an OS. If Ubuntu is made to off ramp people more comfortable with Windows, then that's just a fine purpose for aln OS.

possiblylinux127 ,
@possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip avatar

At this point it's the third best server OS in the Linux space and a below average desktop experience.

Greg ,
@Greg@lemmy.ca avatar

I use Ubuntu on most of my servers and dual boot my gaming rig with Ubuntu Desktop mainly to host LLMs. I've been a Linux user for 25 years, I remember playing around with Red Hat pre 2000. Right now though, I want a solid distro that supports lots of hardware (my network consists of x86, ARM, Oracle Cloud, SBCs, etc), has a large community for support, and isn't likely to get abandoned. Ubuntu solves that

slazer2au , in Lemmy's major collective account cake days are coming up soon.

Toss a coin to your server. Oh community of plenty.

Vinny_93 , in The reason prosthetics are so good in Star Wars is because the Jedi use live lightsabers to train.

Well... Your logic seems on point but keep in mind this is a civilisation that does hyperspace travel and stuff

SpaceNoodle ,

We have walked on other celestial bodies, but we still burn toxic goop that destroys our atmosphere in order to buy chicken nuggets. Logic need not apply.

NaibofTabr ,

"The future has already arrived. It's just not evenly distributed yet."

Vinny_93 ,

I accept your premise that parameters of technological advancement need not influence each other, but assuming that they correlate similarly as on Earth, prosthetics and interstellar travel might have moved forward by the same coefficient.

In that case, walking on the Moon is like using a rock for a prosthetic eye.

starman2112 , in There are songs we've gone our whole lives without hearing and the best song we've ever heard might still be out there.

Chainweasel , in Sex work would probably be less stigmatized in a currencyless society

It wouldn't really be "sex work" if they weren't doing it in exchange for something would it?
Yes, we have currency as a placeholder for trading goods directly but people who perform sex acts for other goods like drugs are just as stigmatized and no currency was involved.
And if people are just having sex with a fun of it then it's not sex work either, it's just sex, which is less stigmatized now then it was 30 years ago but it still has a stigma attached to it, otherwise slurs like "skank" and "slut" wouldn't exist.

Ibaudia OP ,
@Ibaudia@lemmy.world avatar

True, but there are more aspects to sex work than just exchanging sex for something else. Creating pornography, for instance, is something some people already choose do just for fun, even without economic incentive.

ColeSloth ,

And making porn is stigmatized. That's why 99% of the porn made "just for fun" is intended to never see the light of day by anyone but the people making it.

Really, I'm not directly sure what your argument/belief/whatever is here in this post.

If there's no exchange or barter, then there's no sex work. The stigma behind sex work is that you're selling your body to someone for a price tag, and if you weren't getting paid you otherwise wouldn't be doing it with that particular person. In other words, if you aren't getting compensation out of it, you're just like anyone else with a tinder account.

slazer2au , in Maybe many Lemmy users don't understand "shower thoughts" because they don't shower.
