autotldr Bot , in Trinity College Dublin agrees to divest from Israeli firms after student protest

This is the best summary I could come up with:

The encampment began on 3 May when pro-Palestinian protesters set up dozens of tents in Fellows’ Square, similar to actions in the US, Europe and India in response to Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza.

In the UK, vice-chancellors from some of the leading universities will meet at No 10 on Thursday to discuss action to address the rise in antisemitic abuse on campuses and disruption to students’ learning.

“A vocal minority on our campuses are disrupting the lives and studies of their fellow students and, in some cases, propagating outright harassment and antisemitic abuse.

The Dublin campus, which is in the heart of Ireland’s capital, closed to the public, costing the college an estimated €350,000 (£300,000) in forfeited revenue because visitors could not view the Book of Kells, a medieval manuscript and tourist magnet.

“It shows the power of grassroots student and staff fighting for a just cause of Palestinian liberation and to end complicity with Israeli genocide, apartheid and settler colonialism.”

“We abhor and condemn all violence and war, including the atrocities of October 7th, the taking of hostages and the continuing ferocious and disproportionate onslaught in Gaza.

The original article contains 574 words, the summary contains 190 words. Saved 67%. I'm a bot and I'm open source!

@Pluto, you’re being a pain in the ass for mods and admins by blasting posts across a dozen comms, because it results in us getting reports from users. Lemmy is not Reddit. Many people read Lemmy by “All” or “Local,” and they don’t appreciate having their homepage filled up with the exact same post. I tried to tell you this yesterday, but you don’t seem to be listening.

my bad

UnkTheUnk , in Do as I say, not as I do

Why did the article feel the need to mention US foreign policy from the early Trump administration? I can't imagine it would be hard to find hypocrisy from the Biden administration itself.

Instead of talking about the US human rights failures, it spends time downplaying the accusations about Uighurs.
None of the information constructed here builds into a cohesive thesis.

There is no such thing as an Arab Jew, there are Jews that were born in Arab countries, but they are Sephardic, not Arab. Anyone telling you differently is lying to you, which is the Arab way of doing anything at all.

BertramDitore , in NYT op-ed: Government Surveillance Keeps Us Safe
@BertramDitore@lemmy.world avatar

I started reading it, but the very first paragraph is already spilling over with bullshit. So I’m done.

Israel’s unpreparedness on Oct. 7 shows that even powerful nations can be surprised in catastrophic ways.

First of all, of course powerful nations can be surprised, what a silly thing to say. But that’s not what happened here. Israel should have been fully prepared, because Israel was warned about the exact thing that happened on Oct. 7th. Their intelligence was quite specific on what was about to happen, it’s just that they didn’t believe their own intelligence for what I would call ironically racist reasons. They didn’t believe that Hamas was organized enough to be capable of carrying out such an attack, but they were so obviously wrong.

So without finishing the article I’m gonna guess these clowns are using an intelligence failure to justify more intelligence.

queermunist , in AOC urges US to apologize for meddling in Latin America: ‘We’re here to reset relationships’
@queermunist@lemmy.ml avatar

An apology would be a good first step, but until America pays for its crimes there can never be justice.

selokichtli ,

As a Latino I don't give a fuck about the USA paying for its crimes, to my eyes that's a crazy dream. I just wish they stop being bully two-face assholes already. The world needs the best USA right now.

And please, I'm talking about representatives of the USA state that most of the time represent corporations, not the actual people.

BurgerPunk ,

The best USA for the world would be a collapsed one

selokichtli ,

I do not think so. The USA is an important part of our world, whether we like it or not. It's been around for centuries now, and has a well-deserved place as a leading nation. However, they need to address so many problems within their borders before they start meddling everywhere.

BurgerPunk ,
@BurgerPunk@hexbear.net avatar

The rules based world order(tm) is a global imperialist system of monopolistic capital extraction and exploitation of the periphery. The US is the head of that hegemonic order. It provides no value to the rest of the world. It exists to extract value from the rest of the world.

The US position in the world is no more earned than a person who buys a slave deserves the title "master"
