I keep my old coffee bags with the little plastic vent thing in them, and use those to store my brewing grounds for the week.

I can't deal with grinding fresh every day.

Yeah same here, currently grind only every other day - which still feels a lot hehe. Totally get that "keep it as fresh as possible", but I dont have the time in the mornings to go through the full process, so gotta cut the corners some places :P

atrielienz , in How do you store your grounded coffee?

I have literally a couple of mason jars (the smaller variant ball jars). I have a hand grinder that fits the jars so it works out. Means my husband and I can both have ground coffee fairly fresh and without having to share (his coffee tastes like dirt to me). It works for us. We grind the night before usually.

Wow, instant nostalgia from that tea tin. In the Netherlands these were definitely a thing in the last century. I don’t know where they came from but everyone had them. I’ve ordered some (they’re pretty cheap).

aicse , in My initial experiments with Gaggia Classic Pro Evo

Did you check if it has the flaking issue? I bought one a week ago and it already has flakes through the steam wand. Seems like Gaggia is ignorant of the issue.

WhyAUsername_1 OP ,

Can you elaborate?

aicse ,

Here is an article about the issue: Boilergate

You can check yours by running some water via the steam wand, if you find any small black grinds in the cup, that is the coating peeling.

WhyAUsername_1 OP ,

I have not yet faced this issue. I will check this tomorrow.

TedZanzibar , in How do you store your grounded coffee?

ITT a surprising number of people who remember having these tins as kids, including me. I'll have to see if my parents still have theirs.

Oooh man, that tin box! We had that as our cookie tin box when I was a kid.

Does anyone have any idea where that comes from?

alphafalcon ,

No idea, but it was my parent's box for loose tea leaves...

Sunny OP ,

Had no idea so many people would point out that they knew this tin hahaha. Kinda fun! Only recently picked it up for very cheap on a second hand market.

Just like me! Except I choose the small one. I wanted badly to get the lot but I don't have enough thing to store to justify it.

best_username_ever ,

I had a bigger box than OP, and it always had tea inside for me. I guess it was a specific brand of tea but I may hallucinate this.

multicolorKnight , in How do you store your grounded coffee?

I drink it. That's a nice tin, though. I have lots of beans, tea and mate that would feel honored to be in that tin.

Sunny OP ,

Thank you kind one :)

I grind on demand, if I have a little too much I'll dip it like a wad of tobacco which is probably gross but I like it so don't @ me.

Sunny OP ,

Whatever flops your mop :)

That's a good one 😂 I'm going to borrow it

Sunny OP ,
@Sunny@slrpnk.net avatar

Borrow for as long as you like 😉

gencha , in How do you store your grounded coffee?

I loved seeing this. We had the exact same tin box in my childhood household. We used it to store tea. May all your future coffee brews be blessed with this mental connection

In my belly. Don't grind the beans until you're ready to make coffee, and only grind enough for that brew.

Tehdastehdas , in How much coffee do y'all typically drink in a sitting?
@Tehdastehdas@lemmy.world avatar

Comparison is irrelevant. It's entirely up to your response to those stimulants, short- and long-term. For starters, the half-life of caffeine can be 3-8 hours in healthy adults, which is completely unrelated to sensitivity, which really matters, for which there is no objective test.

I used to drink up to 3 shots of espresso per day. Then I got my first amalgam filling, and coffee started causing muscle tension that I had to medicate. Over the years, my tolerance deteriorated, irritability got worse, and now more than a year after removing that amalgam, I still can't handle any amount of coffee daily. One shot makes me feel worse. Quarter shot stimulates but makes me angry, and then ruins the next night's sleep.

I don't know what's broken, but having had chronic inflammation and likely malabsorption in the small intestine because of slow (IgG) food allergies even before the amalgam is probably related. The gut is fine now, been for a year, after two decades of IBS. I can have a cup of decaf per day for a week before the muscle tension gets bothersome.

There's a book "Amalgam Illness: diagnosis and treatment" which helped a bit. Mainstream healthcare was useless against the IBS.

Highly depends!

Normal day working from home: 16g/256mL specialty beans with a V60

At the office? 150mL from the coffee machine 1 or 2 times. Beans are okay. Oxfam fair trade

Sitting at a coffee shop? I will have 2-3 cappuccinos or something.

4-6 shots of espresso and my heart would explode

fubarx , in How do you store your grounded coffee?

Inexpensive electric burr grinder. Grind a single serving and Aeropress it. Works a charm. No complaints.

thayer , in How do you store your grounded coffee?

Nice tin. We grind a 1L Mason jar's worth at a time and use a French press. One jar lasts about 2 weeks and honestly, I can't tell the difference between a fresh grind and a 2-week grind, regardless of bean used. I'm sure some would disagree :)

Pulptastic , in How do you store your grounded coffee?

I store whole bean in an airtight container and grind it daily.
