Pulptastic , in How do you store your grounded coffee?

I store whole bean in an airtight container and grind it daily.

OhmsLawn , in How do you store your grounded coffee?

Beans go in mason jars once I open a 1 Kg bag. Once it's ground, I'm drinking it.

Don't store ground coffee? Buy an inexpensive hand grinder from someone who's moved up to a more expensive model and keep your beans whole until you're ready to brew.

Coffee stales amazingly quickly and there's really no good way to prevent it, the longest I'd store ground coffee for is like half a day (if I'm taking some ground coffee to work to make a cup mid day.)

If you absolutely must store ground coffee an airtight container should work but it won't be terribly fresh after a day or two.

I think this is the correct answer. When I went back to drinking coffee again a few years ago I bought a cheap hand grinder from scamazon. When money was available I bought the electric grinder I have now. I still use the hand grinder when camping.

I keep my beans in the freezer. If I kept ground coffee around I'd keep it there too.

ETA: I think this is the hand grinder I have: https://www.amazon.com/PARACITY-Grinder-Stainless-Aeropress-Espresso/dp/B08QRL9Q4Q/ref=sr_1_16

lunarul ,

I have a similar grinder, paid less than $20 for it, works great. I've been using it daily since 2019.

Unfortunately it's not on Amazon anymore. I found it on eBay, but with a single 1 star review: https://www.ebay.com/itm/124212737537

Buy an inexpensive hand grinder

Any suggestions there? I've looked in the past from recommended review sites but some of the ones I saw suggested online as quality started at like $80. Also does it take a long time to grind say 6-8 tablespoons of ground coffee?

I'm out of the loop here, you're better off making a new post and asking everyone. I ascended to a $200+ 1zpresso last year and I'm never going back. Someone on Reddit bought it and had buyers remorse so when I saw it listed for half price I couldn't resist.

I can tell you not to buy the Hario Skerton or Skerton Pro though; both were incredibly inconsistent and I had a terrible time brewing using them. Even with stabilizer ring mods they both made a ton of fines and boulders, they weren't good for anything except very coarse grind cold brew.

I see a lot of people recommending the Timemore C2 as a cheap first grinder. Look for one on AliExpress and it'll be cheaper than scAmazon. <$50 that sounds like the best option. I dug around a bit earlier and it looks like you can get one for ~$40 when they're on sale.

Cosmos7349 ,

I haven't used that specific model, but Timemore makes great stuff. Them and 1zpresso are the class of the current gen of hand grinders imo.

Yeah, I have a 1zpresso k ultra and it's a phenomenal grinder. I haven't fired up my electric grinder since I bought it.

fhqwgads , in James Hoffmann: The Beginner’s Guide to Coffee Machine Maintenance

I found this video weird, because it seems like something you would post for a more general audience, but it front loads and spends a really long time on espresso machine maintenance. Even within his audience it feels like way more people will own and use a drip coffee machine, which they don't spend much time on. Especially if you should actually put drip machine parts in the dishwasher - the manual often says it's safe.

Fondots , in How much coffee do y'all typically drink in a sitting?

I rarely drink coffee on my days off, when I work I bring a 20oz mug of drip coffee with me. At my old job, I'd probably polish of a pot or two to myself most days, mostly because walking back to the break room and brewing a pot when it was empty was a good way to avoid actually working that no one ever batted an eye at.

CrayonRosary , in How much coffee do y'all typically drink in a sitting?

30g of beans once a day. 4-6 shots would kill me.

jimbolauski ,

4 shots is 28g, you're all ready there and didn't know it.

Pacmanlives , in How much coffee do y'all typically drink in a sitting?

I drink 1-2 Americano’s every day. Double shot of course. When I was drinking drip I would drink 8-10 cups which was a lot. Getting an espresso machine has definitely helped me cut back

I have one cup first thing in the morning and that's it lol if I drink more caffeine than that I'll feel like I want to start crawling up the walls!

wesker ,
@wesker@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Same, I have a one cup rule. Just a standard, drip, black. 2 cups in a day and I'm uncomfortably wired.

MrJameGumb ,
@MrJameGumb@lemmy.world avatar

I go for one cream and two sugars, but same basic concept lol

I got a tiny coffee maker that just just makes one cup at a time and it's perfect!

Got the aeropress about a month ago and have not used anything since. Freaking love the results and how easy going it is! Next on the list is a new grinder, but unsure to go handgrinder or electrical.

Been using local coffee, labelled as French Roasted Coffee, it's pretty nice.

CCMan1701A ,

As I'm lazy, I went electric.

zabadoh OP ,

Electric burr grinder is the way to go, unless you're a masochist.

Sunny ,

Roger that haha

fritobugger2017 ,

There are some great hand grinders available now compared to a decade ago. To get a remotely acceptable electric grinder you would need to spend around $150 or so for something like the Baratza Encore. For that same money you can get a really good hand grinder from 1zpresso or Kingrind which will produce more consistent grinds and fairly quickly.

sorry to say i never came across a kona worth its price

CCMan1701A OP ,

Yeah, I'm not sure I want to get another bag for a while. It tastes like I'm drinking burnt dirt runoff lol I think my garden likes it however. It's fine, I'm mixing it in and making something that tastes good.

Broken_Monitor ,

I was just gifted a bag of Domain Kona and thought it was excellent. Admittedly I’m new to better coffee so my palette may not be as refined as other people’s, but I haven’t had anything better yet. This stuff is very pricey so I’m searching for some middle ground, but I would treat myself to this again.

CCMan1701A OP ,

Nice. Yeah Kona is nice once a year. Lol too pricey to be all the time. I'm exploring the beans available at my local food stores for now after trying a few other mail order options.

TheAlbatross ,

It used to be $6.99 a pound ten years ago. That was wonderful. While it's still my favorite light roast, it's expense means I drink it maybe once a year when I get a bag as a gift or a treat for myself.

specialseaweed ,

I lived on the big island and my boss owned a coffee farm in Kona. He brought us a couple bags on roasting day. Still the best coffee I’ve had by miles and miles.

PrecisePangolin , in What's in your cup this week?

Rio Grande Roasters vanilla hazelnut. I love these beans so much. The piñon is also really good! Very chocolatey and smooth.

Pronell ,

Someone else on here - might've been you - turned me on to them and now I've been alternating between Pinon and Chocolate Pinon. So tasty!

PrecisePangolin ,

I discovered them from Lemmy as well! I bet we saw the same post!

multicolorKnight , in How do you store your grounded coffee?

I drink it. That's a nice tin, though. I have lots of beans, tea and mate that would feel honored to be in that tin.

Sunny OP ,
@Sunny@slrpnk.net avatar

Thank you kind one :)

thayer , in How do you store your grounded coffee?

Nice tin. We grind a 1L Mason jar's worth at a time and use a French press. One jar lasts about 2 weeks and honestly, I can't tell the difference between a fresh grind and a 2-week grind, regardless of bean used. I'm sure some would disagree :)
