EmilieEvans , to 3DPrinting in [SOLVED] Trouble with ASA prints

Try with fans disabled or slowed down and enable draft shield in the slicer. Ideally the printer would have a 60-100°C heated chamber.

riodoro1 ,

100* in a chamber? Are your steppers rated for that?
I’ve never went above 45

DreadPotato OP ,
@DreadPotato@sopuli.xyz avatar

Fans are completely disabled, except for overhangs and bridges. If I disable fans for overhangs and bridges, they sag like crazy.

I doubt draft shield is going to do anything, the printer is already completely enclosed in a tent. I have around 50-55°C inside the tent.

Edit: I tried a re-print with less cooling for overhangs, it seems to exacerbate the issue significantly.

IMALlama ,

If your tent truly is that hot I'm impressed. On my 2.4 with just 2x bedfans, the chamber doesn't crack 40 degrees C after 45 minutes.

The reason why most recommend low/no cooling for ASA/ABS is due to low chamber temps.

If your chamber is that hot you should be able to crank the cooling without much concern. Print a temp tower to prove it out, and to feel out of this is a filament temp issue.

One other piece of advice for ASA: I've found that it likes consistency. I print basically all features at the same speed, other than the first layer. I suspect cooling would fall into this category too.

DreadPotato OP ,
@DreadPotato@sopuli.xyz avatar

The solution was more cooling. It was warping due to too much heat, I increased cooling to 100% and reduced overhang speed slightly and it now prints well.

EmilieEvans ,

Printing fast/without cooling can also go the other way:

By printing very fast the last layer may still be "hot" when the new layer is added. As the temperature differential is smaller there is less stress within the part once it is cooled down.

I have my doubts about how accurate all these claims are, and whether other causes are being attributed to friendly fire, but there's an astonishing number of cases like this.

I guess largely because both sides have very similar equipment.

My sister played the crap out of Journey, she'd hang around the first area until another player showed up, then guide them through the game, showing the stranger all the secrets she knew, tracing hearts into the sand and such.

The embroidery on the robes actually becomes more elaborate as you find more secrets in the game, so she realized she could tell new players from experienced ones, and would guide players or look to learn from them accordingly.

She got the white robe without ever looking up where to find the symbols for it, just finding other players who'd show her where to look.

I don’t know is Spec Ops: The Line falls into this category or not. As you progress through the game and your characters mental state deteriorates, most of the voice lines change from professional to aggressive and the loading screen tips break the fourth wall.

Menagerie , to utility cycling in I got this guy second hand and have some big plans for it.

Pro-tip: These bikes usually come with little to no grease in the bottom bracket, headset, and front hub. I would recommend overhauling them sooner rather than later if you want the bearings to last.

Jake_Farm OP ,
@Jake_Farm@sopuli.xyz avatar

Overhaul as in replace or just add grease?

Menagerie ,

Overhaul as in pull the bearings out, clean them with degreaser, then inspect them. If the bearings are not pitted and the retainer isn't bent out of shape, you can reuse them. If they are messed up, they are very cheap to replace, many bike shops will have replacements on hand. Once you have cleaned or gotten new bearings, pack the cups they sit in full of grease, and reassemble. Typically bearing retainers will have a side that is more rounded and a side that is more flat, you usually want to put them into the cup rounded side facing in.

Once you have it back together, you want to adjust it. The goal is to have the bearings be as loose as possible while not having any play in them. You also want to make sure the locknut is tight against the cone.

This page has info that will be useful for the bottom bracket.
