GONADS125 , to World News in ‘There’s Such a Slaughter!’ – Russian Soldier Reveals Horrific Losses Near Ivanivka

He says: "Yesterday Sam flew the plane and said that just 8 people were sitting in the trench, just 8 khohols [Ukrainains], f*ck! And our men go there by the hundreds, and they are not even capable of taking a f**king thing!"

Ukrainians are a force to be reckoned with when they dig in.. I will never forget how long the Cyborgs lasted at Donetsk Airport. The Cyborgs' nickname was coined by russians trying to cope with how disproportionate their losses were against dug-in Ukrainains with small arms.

Ukrainains are tough as hell.

This was Putin's biggest mistake. He expected the Ukrainian people to just roll over but history has shown over and over that people fighting for their lives can be a fearsome force against an army that would rather be anywhere else.

SineIraEtStudio , to Ukraine in Norway to Transfer 22 F-16 Fighter Jets to Ukraine

Besides the additional Norway airplanes, this was new information to me:

The primary bottleneck to the Ukrainian Air Force’s fielding F-16s in quantity is not limited numbers of airframes but how many combat pilots and ground crew Kyiv can spare from the actual war, to train on transition to the F-16, Cavoli said.

According to Ukrainian mil-bloggers, the first six F-16s with pilots and ground crew will reach Ukraine in June or July. Earlier deadlines had predicted the arrival in April or May.

Is using starlink a good idea for Ukraine? I'm sure Zelensky knows about this, but just in case you don't.

What alternative to Starlink would you suggest?

The event described in the article you linked is not so obviously a "Musk is on Russia's side!" Thing as most people present it as. Basically, a foreign government asked Musk, an American businessman, to provide support for a major attack on Russia's navy. I would be more concerned if he jumped straight in on that. Companies aren't supposed to make decisions to go to war, governments are supposed to do that. Ukraine should have gone through the American government on this.

wintermute_oregon ,

That is actually what Elon said yet the media keeps twisting it. He is prohibited from providing a signal in Crimea because of sanctions. If Biden agrees, he’ll turn it on. He can’t turn it on just because Ukraine makes a request as federal law overrides them.
Now I’m surprised Biden has made such a request even secretly in the background

pelespirit ,
@pelespirit@sh.itjust.works avatar

I mean sure, if you're on Russia's side, he did a good thing? Musk should have never made that decision himself, he should have worked with Biden before shutting off anything. I'll give you more articles if you want.

A Pentagon spokesman said the department responds directly to members of Congress on such matters. “However, we can reinforce that we are aware of the reports that some Russian forces in occupied Ukraine have used Starlink terminals,” he said. “DoD has been working closely with SpaceX and the Government of Ukraine to investigate and address this threat.”

he should have worked with Biden before shutting off anything.

There's no actual proof that anything was turned off for that attack; there's a claim that it was but there's also a claim that the service was never ON around Sevastopol to begin with.

We saw this same kind of twisted press coverage when Starlink started disabling its service over the ground in contested areas of Ukraine; supposedly it was being done to damage Ukraine's war effort but the truth is that US Federal Law constrains the sale of products and services considered "dual use" and Starlink has to play under those rules.

The US is currently damn grumpy with China for sending "dual use" technology to Russia despite the sanctions so it's not just something that Musk / Starlink pulled out of their ass in order to shift blame.

Musk is an asshole but I do get tired of the twisted media coverage surrounding Starlink.

That's not correct. Even though it was wanted and probably ahead of it's time, in the end OTRAG was shut down due to political pressure.

This is an absurd comment considering it's a war that Russia started... but if you had read the article you'd kknow the truth (which I am sure you're not interested in) is that they were late knight strikes to minimize casualties and that there were no casualties reported in at least one of them.

Of course we should stop oil but what does it have to do with bombing refineries during a war? They are not doing it to fix climate warming and pollution, they are just doing it to win a war

In the case of the imperialist war being fought by Russia, destroying Russian oil refineries is an anti-imperialism/climate-harm-reduction win win.

How much supply does Russia have and how much is being disrupted?

I think during WW2 for example bombing of German factories was surprisingly ineffective. So I'll be interested to know what this is doing.
